TIME names the iPhone 5 “Gadget of the Year”

As 2012 draws to a close, TIME Magazine have once again released their lists of the very best and the very worst of just about everything.  And, topping the list for Gadget of the Year 2012 is the iPhone 5. TIME Tech author Harry McCracken says that the iPhone 5 is “one of the most artfully polished gadgets anyone’s ever built, with a taller screen than previous iPhones built into a thinner, lighter case.”  Commenting on the fact that the iPhone 5 had beaten so many of the top gadgets released this year he said, “There are lots of nifty smartphones out there, including the iPhone’s impressive arch rival, Samsung’s Galaxy S III. But when it comes to melding hardware, software and services so tightly that the seams fade away, Apple still has no peer.”

Some may argue that because of the problems, the iPhone 5 has seen, particularly with t addition of the new Maps App that it shouldn’t be in the list at all but when you consider what the handset is capable of this pales into insignificance. The lists don’t just take into account what the gadget can do but what people think of it as well and, with the iPhone 5 also topping the list for most searched for item of the year on most of the search engines, then it’s quite clear which direction the public are looking in.
