Jailbreak iOS 7

P0sixninja has discovered some more exploits for use in the iOS 7 jailbreak utility. He already confirmed in April that he alone had found most of the exploits needed and would ultimately be responsible for the new untethered jailbreak tool being developed.

Many people are still asking questions about an untethered solution for iOS 6.1.3 and 6.1.4.  For the sake of repetition, it is not going to happen. These 2 firmware’s are too minor to warrant using the exploits on – 6.1.4 is only for the iPhone 5 – and it has been decided that, for the maximum amount of coverage, we will have to wait for the next major upgrade.

P0sixninja has been busy on Twitter though, sending tweets out with links to videos showing an OS X kernel exploit.  When triggered, this exploit causes some kind of panic to start in the kernel, which, although not particularly anything to do with jailbreaking, could have a major effect on iOS as well as OS X.  The video also gives information about a further exploit discovered, one that does not need root access in order to work. This could be a vital tool on the development of the iOS 7 jailbreak utility.  All in all, 3 new exploits have been found and these tweets are followed by one final one from P0sixninja, one that says once he has finished signing code for the exploits, iOS 7 will belong to him.

OK, so while this may be old news to some of you, there are newcomers to the jailbreak scene joining us everyday, people who do not know what is happening.  While we won’t see any results straightaway from P0sixninja’s work, he, and the other hackers, are working hard to keep jailbreaking alive.

WWDC is due to start on Monday, where iOS 7 is going to be revealed. From here on in, it will only be a matter of time before we can all get back to doing what we enjoy – flying in the face of Apple’s constraints and jailbreaking to our hearts content.
