iOS 10 has been out for some time now and concern is beginning to mount that there has been no jailbreak. In previous years, we have become used to a jailbreak being released quite quickly after a major iOS release but it seems that, this time around, we have gone back to the days of old, having to wait indefinitely. With iOS 10.2 download [ext link] now public and iOS 10.2.1 in beta, that wait may just have gotten longer.

Will there be a Jailbreak for iOS 10.2.1 ?
We would certainly hope so but we can’t say for definite. The jailbreak teams are staying very quiet right now but that doesn’t mean they are not working hard on the next jailbreak utility. While iOS 10.2.1 is in beta, there won’t be a jailbreak for it , if they released one now, the chances are it will be patched up when the firmware goes public and it would only be usable by those who can download beta versions.

We know that there have been jailbreak utilities for iOS 10+ but these have also been on beta versions and will never be made public , most likely the vulnerabilities have already been patched up anyway. Add to that the news from Lua Todesco that iOS 10.2 is just about impossible to jailbreak and it looks like we may have a bit of a wait on our hands
What is Stopping the Jailbreak Teams ?
There are several factors here, not least the constant updates that Apple is releasing. The introduction of Rootless in iOS 10 is laying a huge part in holding back the jailbreak teams, as is the introduction of Apple’s Bug Bounty program. The offer of up to $200,000 for finding vulnerabilities and passing them on to Apple is going to be a deciding factor and, most likely, many of the vulnerabilities that could have been used are now gone.
The latest utility, PPHelper for iOS 9.2 to iOS 9.3.3, is a semi-untethered jailbreak but Luca Todesco has just made it easier with the release of a tool that reactivates the jailbreak automatically. It is based on the JailbreakMe tool and you can find the instructions on how to use it here.
