Why Jailbreak iPhone 4 ?
When you Jailbreak the iPhone 4 or 3GS , you unlock its full potential. Only then you are able to have freedom of choice of what you can install on your iPhone. Apple has restricted its device usage to only authorized apps , which severely limits its capabilities . Jailbreaking lets you break free and have the additional tweaks and use of apps not allowed by Apple.
Jailbreaking :
Jailbreaking is the process which allows iDevices like iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch to run third-party unsigned code by unlocking the operating system (iOS4 in this case ) and allowing the user root access. This may sound geeky and too unfamiliar if you are a first time iPhone user . Jailbreaking is a term commonly used among iPhone users worldwide with an estimated 1 out of 10 iPhone’s is already jailbroken .
Unlocking Iphone 4 :

Jailbreaking should not be confused with unlocking . Sim Unlocking or Carrier Unlock when done enables your iPhone to be used by other carriers.
Benefits of Jailbreaking Iphone 4 :
- Wi Fi HotSpot - Using the iPhone as a Wi-Fi hotspot is the number one reason to jailbreak the iPhone 4 . The app you will require is MyWi
- Install Cydia - Cydia is like the App Store, it’s lets you install applications right to your iPhone or iPod Touch without a computer
- Do more with FaceTime - Well i know what you plan to do with FaceTime , but this jailbreak app My3G lets you use this feature which is otherwise only available in WiFi.
- Unlock Iphone 4 - Carrier unlock your device .
- Block Unwanted Communication using iBlackList app (paid app).
Apart the above mentioned , there are innumerable changes that can be done on a jailbroken iPhone. I tried to summarize the reasons why we jailbreak .Please let us know about your views or anything you want added to this post through your comments below.

what would be the approximate speed change on the iphone 4 after having being jailbroken?
what speed are you talking about / Browsing speed or the overall speed of the handset [processing | multi tasking ] ?
Jailbreak doesnt make iphone fast . There is nothing like unlocked speed
. I am not sure , if we can overclock the proccy on a mobile device like iphone running apple OS
i mean the overall speed of the phone. does the iphone 4′s overal speed in opening up apps and all that slow down after the jailbreak?
Once I jailbreak can I use my iphone4 as a router?
A WiFi hotspot is a point that offers Internet access over a wireless network through the use of a router (your iphone in this case ) connected to a link(your carrier ) to an Internet service provider.
The answer is simply yes , using MyWi app
Shabash mere sher ………
This will be my first jailbreak for an idevice. I wanted to know what if apple comes out with an update and my device is updates, will the jailbreak be detected and brick my phone ??
once i jailbreak can i reverse it in anyway ??
How much slower is iOS4 after jailbreaking on the new iphone4? I jailbreaked my 1st 3G and it made the phone unbearably slow all around even before I did anything custom to it. That’s why I never bothered jailbreaking my 3GS. have they found a way to jailbreak iOS4 without hurting the devices overall speed as much??
Yes they have. There is a faster processor in the iphone4 so it is not slow at all. I have jailbroken my iphone 4 and it works amazingly fast. i had 3g and jailbroke that and that went ridiculously slow for me to as well……
Ok are you sure about this as I too jailbroke my 3g and in the end it took about 5 seconds to switch between or open apps. Im a big fan of the ability to have unapproved apps but I dont want to have a slow iphone again.
Also I heard rumours of problems reported with FaceTime and MMS ?
problems with facetime and MMS are true . But there are Fix that are being developed. So they will be released some. Some guys even claim to have the fix already.
3G is not equipped for multitasking
I jailbroke my 3G. It slowed the handset right down.
I’m still in two minds to jailbreak. It seems all the features I need on the 3G have been implemented into ios 4 anyways.
I ran with the openssh, sbsettings, battery percentage, installous, Internet tethering.
Multitasking and a few other things
Installous was naughty, so we can ignore that. Internet tethering isn’t a big miss – as my data usage will be capped soon anyways.
What is the point? Is there any genuine advantages to jailbreaking.
I’ve upgraded to the iPhone 4 sorry. That’s why I want to know what’s different.
This isn’t so much a question as it is a warning. Jailbreaking your phone should only be done after you have educated yourself fully about the risks and advantages. No one is trying to convince you to do it, we all do it because of the advantages that are personal to us. Understand that things can go wrong and I personally have experienced such a problem. I had an iPhone 4 and jailbroke it, tried to install some apps that were on my 3Gs but weren’t compatible in 4.0.1. Thus, I bricked my phone (all within 24 hours of getting it brand new). I called apple because the phone kept failing the restore attempt and they sent me a replacement (I pray that I have corrupted the phone so much that they never new I tried to jailbreak). I just finished jailbreaking the new iPhone 4 and now I made sure to check the compatibility problems before installing apps (i.e. no problems so far). The point? Educate yourself about jailbreaking and what is involved and/or find someone who knows what they are doing and ask them.
Ok i have read every single comment but i’m very confused. I just bought an iphone 4 so i’m new at this. The only reason i will jailbreak my phone is because of the wifi. What are the risks or the damages to my phone? It’s worth it or I just may pay the ethernet? ps. I try to go to the jailbreakme.com and the page says there’s a server error… heeelp please
well jailbreak does no hardware damage to your site , only the s/w part gets some trouble , which can be restored anytime using iTunes
did you upgrade to 4.0.2? If so jailbreakme currently only does up to 4.0.1 as the PDF vulnerability/exploit needed in order to jailbreak through safari has been fixed in the 4.0.2 patch…. apparently.
Im sure there will be something else soon

Hi there, I have just upgraded to an iphone 4 from a 3GS and have never jailbroken my 3GS. Lots of collegues have suggested jailbreaking the iphone4 but I see from your website that people get issues when trying to upgrade the software (i.e. from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2). Is this an issue all the time? If it is then i’m seriously considering not jailbreaking the phone as I don’t want to have problems everytime I upgrade.
Jailbreaking has issues , that is why we have this site to solve . But you’ll see only a few have troubles , the majority is happy with their device. If everyone had trouble , nobody will be jailbreaking in the first place.
Out of 7000 users who visit this site everyday , only 3-4 have issues. And those issues are identical and can be easily fixed. Moreoever if you follow the steps to keep a backup of your device , you can always restore it to its insitial settings .
Like SHSH blobs and Tiny Umbrella .
JailbreakMe was only the first jailbreak release , so it was bound to be unstable. With jailbreaking iphone’s being made legal in the US , we are expecting the jailbreak project to be funded by diff legitimate sources , so we can expect a much stable jailbreak software in the coming days …. For you , i would say , get subscribed with the jailbreak alerts to receive updated jailbreak news
I know with the recent iPhone update the PDF exploit that the original iPhone 4 was taking advantage of was patched. Has anyone figured out a way to jailbreak the newest update?
