Un-Tethered Jailbreak for iOS 5 is not available yet .Chronic Dev Team and iPhone Dev Team are working on bring the untethered version as soon as possible.

can i upgrade to iOS 5 preserving baseband (because i use gevey to unlock) and then jailbreak with the above method??
will this jailbreak also activate my phone or i still need the original carriers sim??
Yes you can preserve your baseband with redsnow and later use Geveysim.
1. Upgrade using Redsnow, don’t use iTunes as it will upgrade your baseband too.
2. Jailbreak using Redsnow and use your Geveysim etc
Note: Before doing that, make sure to save your SHSH Blobs using TinyUmbrella. If anything goes wrong, you may downgrade later.

Failed: didn’t work on iPhone 3GS.
Note: AppSync and Installous will be uninstalled upon the installation of this source.
Warning: Since it didn’t work on my 3GS, I had to boot it tethered using Redsn0w. But what I noticed after the restart, the network and WiFi signals were going OFF and ON with 15secs interval, but as soon as I unistalled this source, everything came back to normal.
Dev team has no work about its compatibility with iPhone 3GS . probably its is just for iPhone 4
Well, yeah, they’ve tested this only on i4. They’re waiting for Saurik’s mobile substrate changes, and their next update is due in next 2-3 days.
Below are the limitations of a Tethered Jailbreak.
1) Can use phone, sms (text messages)
2) Can use every other stock app on iphone.
3) Cannot use mobile safari
4) Can use other appstore web browsers such as atomic web browser
5) Cannot use mail app. You could install a gmail app from appstore or such instead.
6) You cannot use any jailbreak tweak, app, cydia until you boot tethered.
7) While in the semitether booted state, you should not add a jailbreak ios5 notification such as sbsettings to notifications during this state or your device will be stuck in a respring loop until you get home to “boot tethered”.

Whenever I try to install a semi-tether, it says that i have to uninstall Installous 4 and AppSync IOS 5.0+. Maybe there is some trick to it, if anyone knows, please comment.
As Asim said , Installous and AppSync will be uninstalled .
can i install them back after installing semi tether?
Yes you can but you’ve to Unistall the Semi-tether package. The dev-team said that, the Appsync/Installous creates conflicts with this package – you cannot have both of them at the same time.

Yep same here, I reboot and get stuck at apple logo. It also messes up my springboard and my icons.
Yup just checked it on my iPhone 4 and didn’t work.
I don’t care about the jailbreak yet, I need an unlock method for 04.11.08 baseband!!

Are you guys mad to mess up your phones like that? What is there to gain? There will be a untethered iOS 5 Jailbreak before or around xmas, just wait. 3 GS, iPhone 4, iPad1 and iPod 5 G will work on that.
There will be no jailbreak for 4S, iPad2 and iPad3.
There will be no unlock for any.

Did you let Cydia load completely? It often happens when Cydia is loading/downloading its packages and you try to add a source in the middle. Also if there are any updates of Cydia, do so, as it may fix the problem too. Good luck
I got it work now but now nothing is working be making calls I can’t check mail when go to mail it shows mail but when you try to look at it it goes away the only thing you can go to cydia what do I do to get it working an I down grade to 3.35 or lower?
Today update for AppSync to use MobileSubstrate instead of interposition library has been launched. This update only affects devices running iOS firmware 5.0 or above.
This will fix the issue with Semi-tether devices, means both Appsync and Semitether packages will work simultaneously which was not the case a few days back.
Will semi-tether work with installous now? Or just with appsync?
It should but first wait for the BigBoss update to their semitether package.
Bigboss suggested AppSync founders to switch to MobileSubstrate so that it won’t give any conflict with their repo. Now since Appsync is updated we too are waiting for the update of Semitether from Bigboss too. As I just checked and it stills opting out for uninstalling appsync and installous.
Think i’m just going to wait for untethered before i get ios 5! Hope it doesnt take too much longer!!!

I don’t clearly understand how this app works.
From the page Jailbreak iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1 -Sn0wBreeze, it says that “Install Semi-Tether Jailbreak app for emergency booting of your phone when you are not near the PC”, so after I jailbreak with RedSnow or Sn0wBreeze and then install this App for in case emergency my phone turned off, my phone will become Semi-Tether Jailbreak phone and lose ability to check mail and Safari? Is there anyway to keep my phone tethered because I need safari, and then has a chance to turn my phone on in case my phone accidentally shut down?
