Snowbreeze on Windows can jailbreak iOS 5 on iPhone 4 . This is a tethered jailbreak which requires you to connect with iBooty and reboot your device every time .

Steps to Jailbreak iOS 5 using Sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 8 :
- Download iOS 5 ipsw
- Download iTunes 10.5
- Download Snowbreeze 2.8 beta 8
- Launch Sn0wbreeze and select the iOS 5 ipsw file downloaded on Step 1
- Snowbreeze will detect the new ipsw and ready it for processing
- Now comes the mode selection page . Choose Expert Mode at the bottom
- In the next page select Build IPSW. Those who need to hactivate choose General then select activate the iPhone option .
- Sn0wbreeze will now process the ipsw file and create a custom ipsw
- After the process is completed , Sn0wbreeze will ask to switch off your device and put it under DFU mode .
To do that you have to turn off your phone and press and hold home and power button together for 10 seconds. Then let go the power button and keep holding home button for another 10 seconds . Your device will now flash ans is in DFU mode . - iReb will put your device in Pwned DFU mode now
- Launch iTunes. It should detect your phone on Recovery Mode and ask to Restore. Press SHIFT Key on Keyboard + RESTORE button on iTunes and select Sn0wbreeze Custom IPSW file just created .
- Allow iTunes to restore your device to new iOS 5 ipsw and jailbreak it
- Since this is a tethered boot you will require iBooty to boot your device . Plug in your phone to the USB cable every time you reboot your phone and use iBooty . Select your device from the drop down menu .

my bb is 04.10.01 on 4.3.3(8j2) and unlocked using gevey sim.
i wanna update to IOS 5. i’m in Yemen and do not have at&t to activate it if it asked me for activation after jailbreaking.
what am i going to face if i do the above steps?
Ok. Please select expert mode and then in that check the box which says “hactivate iphone” & then u dont need ATT SIM.
i would really appreciate if u can mail me the software redsn0w or any other by which i can “hacktivate” my iPhone as i m in the same situation.
i have iphone 3gs & was having 4.3.3 upgraded it to ios 5 using custom ipsw created by redsnow on a mac pc and then i transferred the custom ipsw on my windows pc and updated my phone but now its asking for the original sim from at&t which i dont have and i m not able to even jailbreak it

I have a iPhone 4 (bought from a friend), it a ATT GSM model. Updated it to iOS5 by me via itunes (maybe I messed up on that one).
I live in San Felipe Baja California Mexico, and we are on Telcel GSM here. ATT does have coverage here, but his account has been deactivated, far as I know. I need to jailbreak it in order to use it on the Telcel network free from ATT regular services and charges.
I have jailbroken other iphones (2G, 3G, 3GS) but the 4 is giving me steady issues.
So I have just used the sn0breez-v2.8b8 to unlock and jailbreak iOS5 tethered, and booting with iBooty.
Everything seems to work, got Cydia working, able to do everything any jailbroken phone should do… but when I put in a working GSM chip, it does not join the network. It says no service, it does not even look for signal.
Any ideas? I am willing to try anything at this point, I am not a command line tech, more of a moderate to advanced computer user, so any suggestions keep them crayon friendly

@Vincent – while upgrading to iOS 5 , did u preserve ur baseband??
If it’s 4.11.* , then u are really messed up. There is no unlock for this. U may consider selling ur phone back and then buy factory unlocked.
If ur BB is 4.10.* , u can buy gevey SIM & use ur local SIM card.

Thanks for the bad news… do you think they will eventually break baseband 4.11.08? I have a 3GS that I am using everyday, and I can wait… maybe the iPhone 5 will be out by then..

jailbroken it works perfect but have only 1 problem it crashs when the battery is empty i tried to reboot whitiboot ?!searching for some fixes i read on a forum from cyddia adding a resources to fix that problem but i lost that dammit urlwebsite so wanna ask some HeLUpPPpPppHH!?
i already have ios 5 and i want to change my baseband so that my gevey sim will work,,,whenever i try to downgrade or preserve the baseband when the phone is on recovery mood i press SHIFT+RESTORE and i get error from itunes and it doesn’t continue restoring and i cant restore it to any other ispw except the one that is from itunes update
p.s:i have never done any jailbreak for my phone and i have no SHSH blobs or downloaded versions from old times for my iphone or anything like that
i really need your help ASAP!!

Well there is i got a pc with iTunes 10.5 I couldn’t downgrade with that iTunes so I went to my laptop and downloaded iTunes 10.3 and idk if I was lucky but I downgrade from iOS5 to 4.3.5 now I could use my gavey sim yay me lol

Boot ur phone with iBooty which must have got created while creating custom firmware.
dear tom i have the same problem. but i did downgrade to 4.3.3. did you boot your device by ibooty? did it worked?
I have the same problem after I restore the IP4 with the snowbreeze ROM and started after without iBooty and it didnt work. Cydia didnt start so I tryed with iBooty and it worked. So the phone will boot without iBooty but ignore this you have to start it with it otherwise the jailbreak dont work.

Hi, I already updated to IOS 5 using the custom ipsw to preserve the baseband. I did it successfully and my gevey sim did work on IOS 5. My question is which IPSW should I use to jailbreak my iphone, the custom ipsw used for preserving baseband or the stock ipsw?
Ok , if u have followed the option as shown in the pictures in the above post then u will not get jailbreak.
The option is only for baseband preservation.
If you need jailbreak , then select either simple mode or expert mode. Bot these options still preserves the BB and jailbreaks too.
Once u hve created ipsw file using any of these 2 options then restore to that and ur phone would be jailbroken. Now after restore it will not start and thats when u have to run ibooty to restart it.

i have an iPhone 4 upgraded to iOS 5 by using snow breeze & unlocked with gevey sim, everything worked fine , cydia , calls the only thing that didn’t work was sms and mms , i ignored it i was like OK whatever , but then i installed a package on cydia which needed the device to reboot , so i shut it off and tried to boot it it with i booty 2.3 , i go went through all the steps , i booty said it was done , but nothing poped up on my screen , so i did this multiple times and it still didn’t work , then i restored it to the custom ipsw that i created with snow breeze and tried to boot it with i booty but still nothing , CAN SOME ON PLEASE HELP ME IDK WHAT ELSE TO DO
Can someone please help me understand why cydia isn’t working? I need it to help fix my MMS issue, but it won’t load. I jailbroke the phone, used ibooty, but it still won’t work.
This fixed my mms problem and i didn’t even have to jailbreak, this fixes the problem that people have who CAN’T receive picture messages
Fortunately I got my phone already unlocked so not bothered about the baseband but will still wait for the untethered JB…Can’t wait!

u can activate it using sn0wbreeze-v2.8b8 just chose expert mode and general and check the hactivate sim box

Hi, I have a 3GS currently on 5.13.04 baseband and 4.0.1 firmware. It’s unlocked and I am using it on Tmobile. I’d like to keep using it on Tmobile. I can jailbreak with this method and unlock with Ultrasnow?

I have installed all of the required .NET versions. all up to ver 5.
I have repaired all of the .NET options through repair/remove option.
I have the latest Itunes installed and never had a problem before with any app or .exe file.
Running a WIN xp pro sp3 on a laptop.
Could someone point in the right direction. I have done some googling but there is little there and all the methods I found failed me so far.

You can not, yet there is no method to unlock the BB
thanx m8 ^^ iboot helps we need to try several times and start up itunes if not automaticly then click on itunes by restarting whit iboot it helps for sure ssometimes itunes doesnt react so clik on it by reboot exdperiment finisehd succesfullyyhhh:))

You should NEVER activate it twice. You MUST UNCHECK the hactivate option otherwise your phone will NOT work.

I’ve downloaded IOS 5.0 and then created custom firmware of it with sn0wbreeze 2.8b10. Phone has been set to DFU-mode and everything seems to go normally in iTunes. When iPhone needs to reboot the problems start. After phone has rebooted and apple logo & download bar is on screen, iTunes doesn’t recognize iPhone anymore and the download bar doesn’t make any progress at all.

Thats the moment when u have to go to ur desktop, find ibooty which have got created while creating custom firmware. Run ibooty, follow the onscreen procedure of going to DFU and wait for reboot.

I was hesitating a bit initially thinking that my phone would not work with Gevey sim due to base band upgrade, but fortunately, every thing went well and now I am on I-OS -5 with Gevey Sim on Vodafone in India.

cydia doesnt work… i tried rebooting with iBooty and i had to do everything all over again, i had to restore my device via itunes again…
I can either have a jailbroken phone, and use cydia, WITHOUT gevey working, or, have gevey working, without access to cydia
I’m unable to get both. help please.. I’m about to give u and just use gevey without cydia.
to reiterate and elaborate: When I boot my phone normally, without iBooty, gevey works everytime. When I boot my phone using ibooty, the message won’t pop up(so I go to settings and force it, hit accept, wait for no service/15 seconds, dial 112, turn airplane mode on). when I turn airplane mode on is where it gets stuck, and will not continue with the gevey unlock process.
i download the sn0wbrezze (windows) to make the custom, then i put iphone in DFU mode, when restoring with itunes it shows error 3194. i’ve used tiny umbrela to jump this error, but then shows a new error 2005 in itunes. any suggestions how to solve this?
