Redsnow 0.9.9b5 can jailbreak iPhone 4 iOS 5 tethered . Follow the jailbreak tutorial below to perform a tethered jailbreak on your iOS device .
Steps to Jailbreak iPhone 4 iOS 5 :
- Upgrade iPhone 4 to iOS 5 using iTunes 10.5
- Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b5
- Launch Redsn0w and click on “Jailbreak” option as shown below
- In the next screen Redsnow will ask you to switch off your device and put it in DFU mode by pressing and holding power and home button for 10 seconds. Then leave power button and keep pressing home button for another 10 seconds .
- Redsnow will now start jailbreaking your device. This latest version of Redsnow do not require you to have iOS 5 ipsw file . It fetches all the required information from Apple servers. So make sure you are connected to the internet while performing the jailbreak process .
- After the jailbreak process is over you have to boot tethered . To do that select “Extras” button and click on “Just Boot” button as shown below .
Note : Since it is a tethered boot , every time you turn off your device you have to follow Step 6 to boot your device .
For Gevey Sim and Ultrasn0w Users : You should first upgrade to iOS 5 preserving baseband and then follow this tutorial to jailbreak .

iMessage you have to install it on settings. You will have it just within your normal message app. So you will be able to use it only when/with contacts who have imessage on their iphone, ipod or ipad…
Was anyone able to jailbreak ios 5 on iphone4 and had a successful Cydia installation with 9.9b4 under windows? On mine I get a white Cydia image and when I try to launch it, it’s closed automatically.
You have to turn phone off, put into dfu mode, than “reboot” with redsnow! Than it will work.
Cheers! It worked. I left it about 3 minutes with a pinable on screen and then finally booted.
I had the same problem. Tried rebooting with redsn0w but it stopped working. I had to restore with iTunes.
Same prob here that’s why I hate redsnow, I’ll just wait for untethered

It’s untethered (yes untethered) for 3GS. Just updated mine and after a couple of restarts it loads normally, no need to boot tethered etc…
It’s untethered for 3GS IF you have an old bootroom. So, you are lucky!
can use this for IPAD 2?
This means that If i have iphone 4 on version 4.1 with baseband 1.59.00, i simply follow this procedure, then use ultrasn0w from cydia and works like charm. Is that right?
That’s right but it would a tethered one.
Just to be sure, I have an jailbroken iPhone4 with 4.3.1 and the 01.59 baseband and I can boot untethered. If I updated to iOS 5, preserving 01.59 and jailbreak that, I will have to boot tethered?

Where is the “Message” in settings ?!?!? I don`t have it, and therefor I can`t activate Imessage ! How can I get the messages again on my settings list ? Any1 knows ?

It’s there in Settings>Messages>iMessage
It’s quite strange though. Try reinstalling the iOS might fix the problem.
I had BiteSms installed and if you select in bitesms -> settings -> more stuff -> hide messages app the messages option from settings will disappear.
Thanks people ! I actually found it after I remembered that I`ve hidden the “Message” icon from the SBSettings. You know, in “More” it has this nice little extra? So, now that i`ve put for the icon to be shown, I found also the option, within the “Settings.app”.
`coz to me it keeps on crashing !
But now, that I also have IMessage activated, I dunnow how to use it! It`s okay, I`ll just google it! Thank a lot for ur help!

Hei. After jailbreaking using redsn0w i have ”no service” on my MC603B/A – iPhone4 with baseband 04.10.01. tried jailbreaking again, reseting device , 3g-data roaming on/off , airplane mode and still can’t figure out how to get network working. Any suggestions folks?

I recently updated to ios 5, then i jailbroke my phone with redsnow.
I mistakenly restarted my thethered phone, after doing so it got stuck on the apple logo, i tried to restore it using itunes, but it kept on crashing halfway. I also tried booting using the redsnow application on my computer but it kept on trying to connect to itunes
If you’ve updated to iOS5 using iTunes, then it has certainly updated your Baseband, and if you’ve updated using Redsnow, then your baseband is preserved. Anyway, if you’ve done the later, put your phone into DFU mode and update it again with redsnow. Once the phone is updated, and you put it again in DFU for jailbreak, remember, the phone restarts after the jailbreak is complete and it gets stuck on apple logo. Now from there on, put your phone into DFU mode, and from redsnow select just boot tethered. I hope this helps and brings Cydia to your springboard. Good luck

I got the same error.. you have to open Redsnow.. click extra’s click pwn DFU mode.. then open up itunes.. and hold the shift button and click restore.. find your custom ipsw that you made for ios5 that preserves your baseband.. and you should be up and running.

My IPad 2 and iPhone 4 are both on 4.3.3 Is there anyway to update to IOS 5 Without the need of iTunes or having to lose all my jailbreak data? My computer broke so I am hoping there is a way to do this now with just using redsn0w or something. Any detailed explanation of this would be great. Thank you in advance.

I had a successful upgrade to ios 5 with redsnow.
Preserved my baseband at 04.10.01 and gevey sim still works perfectly.
I’m wondering if i run redsnow to tether jailbreak now, if it will update my baseband,
because it asks be to select the stock ios 5 firmware before i click jailbreak.
I dont want to jailbreak if i cant unlock with gevey and it upgrades my baseband.
Any Answers Thoughts Questions Comments?

When you upgraded to ios5 with redsn0w did you lose your jailbreak? I really want to upgrade to ios5from 4.3.3 but I’m afraid of losing all my information and i wouldnt be able to get it back because my mac is broke :/
Yes. You will lose your jailbreak and apps, only the info that you backed up with be back on your phone.. Like contacts.. Text messages, notes, etc. all jailbroken apps and tweaks will be gone.
I recommend if you still want your jailbreak.. Not to upgrade. I miss the jailbreak but I’m satisfied with iMessages and iOS 5.. But I can’t wait till the new jailbreak!!
