Those of you that have the iPhone 5 or any other device running on iOS 6 or later have been eagerly awaiting the release of an untethered jailbreak. People are growing impatient, wondering if it will ever materialize, especially those of you that are already used to working with jailbroken devices.
Jailbreaking opens up so many new possibilities; new apps, tweaks such as a Notification Center on the Lock Screen, new ways to customize the device. Unfortunately, it isn’t looking likely that an untethered jailbreak will be available anytime soon.
Apple has gotten wise to the ways of jailbreaking and, although the dev teams have been successful with past iOS releases, it seems that Apple is one step ahead this time. Security has been tightened up on iOS 6 and it’s proving to be a difficult barrier to get through. Some even believe that iOS 6.1, due for release in the near future, will be even more difficult to crack open.
That said, David Wang, AKA Planetbeing is working hard to get all the pieces in place and, although warnings have gone out for users not to upgrade to 6.0.2, he doesn’t believe that there is much difference between the versions. This means that, in his eyes, should there be a success story for 6.0.1 it will probably work on 6.0.2 as well.
However, we all know how tough this one is proving so, to avoid real disappointment in the future users are advised not to upgrade to 6.0.2 and definitely not to 6.1 when it appears. While people are getting restless, the advice is to remain patient and do not fall for any of the many scams that are being touted on the internet. We’ve all seen the websites claiming to have an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak and we all remember the fiasco caused by DreamJB just before Christmas. The truth is, they don’t have one and all you are doing is running the risk of downloading a virus or, worst case scenario, bricking your device altogether.
