I am waiting for mine IMEI unlock right now. I would like to see some sort of article that shows how to back up the unlock token to undo any re-lock that Apple may issue. How much did you pay? Here in England i payed £15 per iPhone and have unlocked over 20 pieces. These are just rip offs honestly. You should contact your carrier network and ask how much they charge for an unlock, they will also unlock your iphone in the same procedure however charge you a lot less then what these lot are.

I am sorry to correct you but with 4.3.1 Apple changed the way the BB works and implented an method to lock, factory unlocked iP 4. Therefore I do not recomment to upgrade past 4.3 or stay below.

Hi Nirali, you can certainly unlock your Iphone4 by Gevey sim….Its totally legitimate and you dont need to go to US…you can do it in mumbai only……only thing is that…its little expensive not much around 3500 rs. and you only have to pay if your carrier show’s signal bars and you dial a call and it connects…….

i saw other guys with their gevey simcards..thats a far more economical method…..but i dont like the idea of not shutting my phone, and the signals drop, and another thing you have to continually activate the phone…it is too much of a hassle..

@Ragz – Dont spend too much money on permanent unlock. Gevey Sim works like a charm on my I4 with ios 4.3.2. Only catch is that you have to unlock your phone every time you switch it off…hardly takes 5 mins to unlock. Why would you switc it off anyways..its got good battery. Go to Jagadish maket in Hyderabad and get one. They call it Turbo Sim…Shop name “Mobile Masters”
@Ragz – Forgot to mention the price. Mobile Masters charged me 2500 RS for the Gevey SIM. Not bad…compared to 170$ for your factory unlock for which there is no guarantee. Try 2-3 shops..see if you can get it cheaper…im a lazy a$$..dint try anywhere else..just went to Mobile Masters and got my I4 unlocked. But he gives good service though..

Yes your right, forget 170 but from $120 i can officialy unlock the iPhone (via your network) and their procedure to unlock their iPhones. Majority of the networks would agree to do it however i also know of a few who dont

You should insert your AT&T sim to get it activated and connect to itunes then your phone will be activated in less than minute.

There is a person who does the unlock mine was locked on optus australia network and am from pakistan quetta. I have the Gevey sim, it will not good working(itis new and you can buy it from me) the best way to unlock is now by imei from appel. You can buy it now for 170$ .
the only problem is that the imei unlock is not legalised by apple and they can revoke ur unlock if they realise it… mostly will wait till dev-team or someone figures out a way to retain the unlock number some how. and hav some reviews abt the gevey sim in india.. not so satisfying… might wait for rebel sim too.

The imei unlock 170$ is legit yesterday when walking downtown i asking some uulock phone store and its said its working and he already unlock 3 people today but its cost a few buck 180$. He told to wait a few week because the rpice gonna drop a lot.
This unlock is working and the normal way to unlock your phone via carrier. This should cost either nothing or a fee of maximum $30 all around the world with the exception of AT&T phones.
So, if you have a phone NOT from AT&T, go to your carrier and ask to unlock it, under normal circumstances (your phone, you bought it, genuine reason like going abroad ect)there will be no problem.
All others: use the Gevey.
So whats the thing with these expensive unlocks?
2 weeks ago, a large part of the database containing the IMEIs of iPhone 3GS and iPhone4 was stolen from Apple, or better, copied and with a remote access “doctored”
The person(s) responsible are selling the numbers (precisely the access to the database and the setting on “white” for your IMEI thru iTunes) for $100 a pop. The resellers are putting there profit on top, hence $120-$180 for you.
It sounds a lot, but those guys have to make a lot of money because when they are found out, there not only fired (and won’t find work anywhere else in the business for the rest of there lives) but may have to pay a rather large sum to compensate for the lost money, mainly to AT&T
All 7 resellers have suspended there services atm, because of the strong demand. In the first 4 days about 32000 in total asked (and paid) for the unlock. Nearly 25000 already went thru.
Just multiply that by 100 for the thief’s and by 70 for the resellers…….
There is a possibility for Apple after those guys are gone to revert the unlock, all that has to be done is to change status in the database from white to black. As owner of a AT&T phone I might get worried. But the chances we think are under 20%.
There is a natural selection for the people to unlock this way as it is too expensive. Selling your locked phone and paying $150-$200 on top gets you a factory unlocked iPhone. So it is not making a lot of economic sense
The price will not come down, but the price of the Gevey/Rebel will for sure. Already you get the Gevey in Europe for under $50, after the first million they went down.
Just remember, next time, just get a factory unlocked one or use your local carrier when you get it subsidized, it saves a lot of heard ache.
i don’t think those guy would get arrest i think its already a part of apple idea to put the unlock on sale because iphone5 its on his way. Apple could care less about unlock if it been unlock by some third program or anything else unless the carrier complain that his phone got unlocked when he or she doesnt have the right to unlock they phone. you should ask why the data got leak why not when iphone4 got release well its part of they plan. They no phone in the world that would be locked forever if that the case iphone 3g 3gs would be locked forever but you can still buy imei unlock.
You are wrong, there is no way you can legitimately get a IMEI unlock for ANY AT&T phone. This got nothing to do with Apple. They sold there phones to the providers and the providers are responsible for the unlock.
It is true that in the past Apple “leaked” the unlock to hackers like the “dev-team”. That way, they sold more phones and could not be made responsible to companies like AT&T. Since iPhone4 they stopped this because now you can buy any phone factory unlocked, so the subsidized phones are just that, subsidized.
iPhone5 is a long way off. You will not see anything before 2012. What you WILL see this summer is the return of the iPhone 4 white and a small price reduction in September/October.

Nobody has to believe me. Everybody has the right to believe the stories of the “dev-team” or any other rumor mutterer.
I work for Apple here in Barcelona, Software Development and localization, thats why I could tell you month ago that iOS 4.3 is NOT the last iOS 4 as “the hackers” wanted to make you believe. I also told you that 4.3.1 is not the end, that 4.3.2 was already in the making. It was published a few days ago.
Apple is not concerned about Unlocks, they are not responsible for any locks in the first place, phones are ordered locked from the carriers. Apple is only providing the database and iTunes interface for any eventual official unlock.
Apple IS concerned about jailbreaks.
Not, as many believe, because they loose money, but more important because people wreck there phones with a lot of programs from cydia or ice and also because it hurts the developers if they see there apps in Installous or apptrackr.
If Android phones crash twice a day because some cracked GPS Software eats up the battery and shuts down the Baseband or people get charged for in app purchases they never ordered, its expected. People scream and shout but after all, its “just an Android”
When iPhone acts up you get people in the shop demanding that it will be fixed, its ALWAYS Apples fault, no matter what they did with the phones. So Apple tries to control content as much as possible. Only software we know and tested is put up. After all, iPhone is the ultimate communication device and NOTHING is suppose to tarnish that reputation.
A jailbreak can (I do not say will) screw the software up, so Apple tries to avoid that and some of us have to monitor sites like this one to see whats going on.

You were right not less than 100 % , and it was so clear you are either work with AT & T or apple or any other similar field. , however tell me something , i work and live in Qatar , which has 2 telecom provider and i was working in one of them , so the other one was Vodafone , never-the-less even Vodafone is a world wide telecom provider , i had the most bad experience i can have . I got 2.10.04 bought from USA AT&T ” Locked ” just because i don’t have a contract as some body was their for a visit and couldn’t have contract as you can see , so he didn’t pay cheap price for it , now the important part , i couldn’t unlock him for any price from and legal telecom provider , Vodafone is saying they can’t and i don’t know why as they do it in UK , none of apple or AT&T could tell me yes we can unlock it even with charge . Tell something you experience like that , what idea you will take about a large companies like Apple and AT&T , doesn’t that will lead you to have alternative solutions like hackers ? tell me what can i do in my case and please don’t tell me it is my or X fault and save my time for that . As i said it has been bought by some one from USA from AT&T themselves. Know that i didn’t go for the hack solution yet as i do prefer something original, safe , and legal like telecom provider , and no way i can go for Gevey sim or something like . I’sorry to say but there is no legal way to unlock your phone. Again, it is not Apples fault but AT&T, they bought the phone of Apple and they are the ones that would unlock, but they do not.
The phones in England and elsewhere are from respected providers in those countries. Nobody, no carrier, can unlock a AT&T phone, only there own ones.
Vodafone for example has very different approaches in different countries regarding the unlock of Vodafone iPhones, so is everybody else.
As you do not want to use a Gevey, the only sensible solution for you is to sell your phone, preferably to an American (e-bay) who can use it with AT&T in the states and get a regular phone with your local provider or a factory unlocked phone directly from Apple.
A dev-Team unlock by the way is exactly the same “illegal” as a Gevey, after all, they work on the same principle. For a software unlock (one that does not exist) you also need a jailbreak, not so for the Gevey. You do not even loose your Warranty with a Gevey.
Also, I do not quite understand, that you are against the ·hacker” solution, as it was never possible to legally unlock a AT&T phone. You must have known that? Apple is not inviting the hackers with this, as you CAN buy a factory unlocked phone that will work anywhere and with any GSM card without any problems.
You are not alone, Millions of iPhones got sold to tourists in the states, because it is cheap ($599 over $1000 for the factory unlocked version) but I’m afraid you have no choice then either getting a Gevey, selling your phone or getting one with your local provider.
@Chriss i do agree with you on most of what you have said but not fully. I believe jailbreaking an iPhone allows the “full” customization which apple blocks in their firmwares. Yes i know that installaous and apptrackr are just damaging the marke and should be removed as they put the developer off from making apps because its easily cracked and put on installous for others to download. Cydia does give a warning when installing the hackulo source which included installous. There are some extremely talented devs out there who know their apps will not be be put on appstore due to a huge list apple wont allow, which then turns them to cydia and thats where we see great apps coming in. Ive jailbroken every apple device i have had as i belive the iDevice is incomplete with Apples firmware.
This is true. 2 weeks ago I went to a cellphone repair shop and inquired about ip4 unlock. The guy told this thing but for only $80. I came back the following week and he was asking for $160! The guy even showed me how it works thru his computer. I should have tried it the first time i wemt there. Now, I need to wait for the price to drop!

No, you can get relocked. BUT….
It must be confirmed on a case by case study, so it would mean a lot of work.
Of course, an unusual large number of IMEIs from a single source, and that source NOT being a official carrier, might rouse suspicion.
An unusual number of IMEIs for AT&T phones (they do not get unlocked normally) also could easily be detected.
The question is, if Apple is really interested. These unlockings are going on for just a week, atm they do not work, at least thats what I hear. We will see.
A official carrier unlock is the safe way, also very much cheaper. If you are stuck with an AT&T phone, I strongly suggest the Gevey (or soon the Super Gevey, no more 112)
Rebel Sim actually has a product where dialing 112 is no more necessary. The device has it’s own SIM slot and battery slot to override the iphone4′s locked carrier. Yes, you need a contract, but you will need a contract anyway so if you go to the provider of your choice, you can get the conditions of your choice.
Here in Spain for example you get a 16GB iPhone 4 with 18 month contract at 29,90 Euro/month (unlimited data, unlimited calls to landlines and Vodafone, unlimited text to Vodafone and 15c/min calls to anywhere else) for 149 Euros.
The competition (Movistar) offers similar conditions (and a free unlock service after 12 month) and Orange is even cheaper but got a cr@p network.
So, paying that kind of money for a rather ugly “bumper” PLUS the price of your phone is rather silly.

Tony, what I meant was, if the phone was from a contract or other legitimate source. I’m asking because we had several phones in the shop that did not respond to the Gevey, the Gevey however did work in other iPhones.
After checking the IMEI and serial numbers, all of the phones where registered as lost or stolen and that means that the IMEI is worldwide blocked, so no unlock or Gevey can resurrect it because a regular network will not allow the phone online.
I do not in any way suggest that you, or other people that have this problem, stole the device, but the stories we hear are always very similar. Bought it at a legitimate store (hole in the wall) somewhere in Pakistan/Tailand/Vietnam/Nigeria/enter favorite destination….sometimes even in the original packaging. Now, Apple is not delivering to any of these markets or stores. On the other hand, western travelers happily sell there, real, iPhones on some of these markets to these dealers for a few bucks, only to report them stolen later at home and get there device replaced or paid for by insurance. You can imagine the rest.
If you are Australian, why not just get your iPhone in Australia? From your carrier of choice?
Chriss my Iphone that I bought in Thailand wasn’t new I bought it of a lady that worked in a shop (book shop) she had been using the Iphone 4 for 3 months but decided it was to hard to use so I bought it of her second hand but in new condition, it was also jailbroken and unlocked with 4.1 firmwear and 3.10.01 baseband , I ended up losing the unlock after upgrading to 4.3.2 which also chanced my baseband , this was before I new all about Tinyumbrella to save SSH file, so this is where I’m at!

Tony, nothing matches there. iOS 4.1 had BB 2.10, not 3.10. Both could have been jailbreaked but none was unlocked. So, if the phone was working when you bought it, it was not unlocked but had an original SIM in it at the time.
when you updated it to 4.3 it became BB 4.10. So far so good.Now the question is, who was the original provider for this phone and has it been reported lost or stolen by the nice lady AFTER you bought it?
The Gevey works fine with 4.3.1 or 4.3.2 and BB 4.10, I got one myself here with that software, no issues except facetime but that is hardly important (we got skype)

I have been fighting with Gevey on my iphone4 (At&T from USA), 4.3.2 firmware. I wonder if it works with micro sim you want to use (European) or the original one (American AT T)? I think IMEI is a factory lock that has been ceased. Now I am considering REBEL card – but need feedback from folks who have tried it on 4.3 /At&T) and can use iphjone in EU now.
Ok, about an hour ago (7:30pm EDT) the remote unlock via several websites has ceased. Apple clamped down and state prosecutors are investigating.
If the already unlocked phones (about 40000) will stay that way is anybodies guess, but the chances are not bad.

Sorry Tony, but the reception got nothing to do with the Gevey, it does not matter if you got the AT&T card in it or something else with Gevey, radio reception has nothing to do with it. So maybe, you just got bad reception?
The contacts of the SIM can not be transferred to the iPhone, they never could,with or without Gevey, the iPhone syncs with iTunes and your contact list there. To get the SIM contacts you will first have to sync them with your old phone to the computer.
If the phone turns itself of by itself, it is also not the fault of the Gevey but surely a fault of the phone. Obviously there is something wrong with it. Thinking of all points together, you might have found the reason why it was sold in the first place.
But I would not put the blame on the Gevey, these cards work remarkably well. While it it possible that you have a bad one (imitation, fake) none of the problems could be rooted to the card.
You ae wrong Chriss I would normaly get full reception here where I live always so it is the Gervey Sim Card.

Tony, reception is not dependent on the SIM, have you tried your AT&T Card without the Gevey? Just pop it in and see the reception. It is absolutely possible, that other phones get better reception in your area even if the iPhone 4 is rumored to have one of the best receptions around. But then, something seems to be wrong with you particular unit if I see all the problems you have. Did you try having it looked at by Apple?
arseve, I can hardly “recommend” any Device that defrauds the seller of the phone. If you use a SIM like the Gevey, you basically steal from the provider who subsidized the phone in the first place.
But anyhow, I do not need to recommend anything since there is only one option, the Gevey. The Rebel Card only exists on the net as a fancy drawing, nobody seems to have seen it in reality and working yet.
Lots of people however already lost a lot of money.
Considering the cost of the Gevey ($35) I do not see why one even considers anything else since the Gevey is working as over a million customers proof.

I would think so, bad enough paying $48 AU for it. But then again how desprett are you?
considering that you should be able to sell your Rogers on e-Bay Canada for around 700NZD you could put those 300NZD on top and get yourself a factory unlocked one right in NZ. Of course, you can get it much cheaper elsewhere and if you get it over your local provider in NZ, it should cost you nothing at all.

That is unlikely, AT&T contracts run for 18month or 2 years, the iPhone4 is not even one year on the market. But even if your contract expires, sometime in 2012, AT&T will not unlock there phones. At least they did not do it in the past. With all the headache and problems, why not just get a factory unlocked one? Sell your iPhone to somebody that will use it on AT&T (in the states the best provider anyway) and then use any SIM you like with a factory unlocked phone. It will cost more, and you pay more to use it if you use a prepaid service other then AT&T, you will not have all features on any other network (no 3G on t-mobile, no VVM) but if you insist on wasting money every month, you can spend more on the phone as well, or not?

Since Dec bought an Iphone4 4.1 bb 02.10.04 in the USA AT&T locked in an Apple store and eventually tried with the Gevey that did not work eithet, finally have decided to give up and buy a new unlocked Iphone for $1,100, but am glad that the wait is over and can finally enjoy my Iphone4 as a phone instead as an expensive ITouch. Why not just save yourselves the hassle and dump your IPhones for one of the Google Nexus Phones? no need to jailbreak or Unlock since it comes unlocked and you can install whatever app you like anytime…. And yes i owned an IPhone and I found it very easy to walk away from it when I bought My Nexus… Hassle Free! I swear!

You have to downgrade your firmware(which u have before). For downgrade i hope u save ur SHSH blob before update to ios5! As u accidently update, ur baseband also update & rite now i think theres no unlock for this…… Google as with ur Baseband!

yaaro forget of all this think just go & buy gravy Sim it work without problem i’m using it from last many month in my i phone4g with basband 2.10.4 with 4.1 version in INDIA . The shop person will only check it in ur iphone & show u that it works then only u v to pay money don’t buy from net like eBay etc., okie.
