Not so long back surveys revealed that consumers were not interested in the iPad Mini and many showed disappointment in it when it was released. However, recent reports tell a different story and suggest that, either the wrong people were asked or people have changed their minds. Analyst Company NPD DisplaySearch have issued a report that says iPad Mini sales are far outstripping the bigger iPad 4 by a long way.
Analyst David Hsieh says
“The iPad Mini apparently is selling better” than the new iPad 4. It seems people especially like the size…[it’s] lighter, slimmer and easier to carry.”
Apple originally estimated selling around 6 million iPad Minis’ in the whole of 2012 However, demand has overtaken supply and they are expecting to ship out 12 million in the last quarter of 2012 alone. Next year an estimated 100 million iPads are expected to be shipped, 50 million of these being iPad Minis, 40 million iPad 4’s and the last 10 million being made up of older models.

This is a surprising turn up for the books for a product that was supposedly overpriced and not up to Apple’s usual standards spec wise. If this is how this iPad Mini is selling then one could reasonably expect the new iPad Mini with Retina Display to fly off the shelves when it is released.
