It looks as if the iPad 5 is on its way to us and is apparently due for release in March 2013. It’s said to be a much slimmer, lighter model of iPad, with its design based on that of the iPad Mini. The report comes from Japanese site, Macotakara who say that the 9.7″ iPad is undergoing a complete overhaul. Their report says “According to my inside source, iPad(5th) may be released in March, 2013. Source told that, design of this new iPad will be like iPad mini in detail, and be thinner and lightweight. (The expectation comes to have a small 4mm in height, 17mm in width, depth 2mm).”
Bearing in mind that the iPad 4th generation was only released back in October and that the dimensions seem a little unrealistic for a full size iPad, its difficult to know whether this report should be taken seriously or not. That said, Macotakara are normally pretty accurate when it comes to Apple intel and to be fair, with the exception of the iPad 4, all others have been traditionally released in the Spring. So it may not be totally out of the question for the new iPad to make an appearance in the next few months.
Rumour also has it that Apple are busy working on the iPad Mini 2nd generation as well, with the expectation that this will also be released in March 2013 and it will have a 2048 x 1536 Retina Display and A6X processor. So, 2 new iPads in the same month? Its looking likely to be an interesting year ahead for Apple and their consumers and, with the way they have been keeping us on our toes just recently, anything is possible .
