Chronic Dev Team member @Pod2g has demoed video of iOS 5 untethered jailbreak on his iOS device . According to @Pod2g iOS 5 untethered jailbreak will also support iOS 5.0.1 . Currently iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1 tethered jailbreak is available through Acidsn0w , Snowbreeze and Redsn0w which can be converted into partial tethered using Semi-Tethered app on Cydia .
Advantages of using iOS 5 Un-Tethered Jailbreak :
Unlike tethered and semi-tethered jailbreak an untethered jailbreak can be used without requiring a PC to reboot the phone . It can be turned on and turned off normally . In tethered jailbreak whenever you restart the phone the device will be stuck at Apple Logo . Then you cave to connect to your computer and run “Just Boot” on Redsnow to start your phone . Semi-tethered on the other hand allows booting but most apps are not functional when booted in this way . It also requires booting using PC for full phone functionality .

I noticed that too. I had to check my own.. Writing is correct way around so the video isn’t flipped.. Maybe it’s coz it’s an iPod? I never had an iPod so wouldn’t know.

ITs Iphone baseband version. When ios comes out and you upgade, the phone baseband update too. Those people who are on other carrier that att, have to stay away from that number( for now) otherwise the phone is locked to att

Yes Doc, you are right. Andpatience will be very rewarding in that particular case because we all know it will be released soon. Dev team is working very hard for us. I am part of those who have 2 iphones, a 4 and a 4S factory unlocked. I want to sell my 4 (32GB 4.3.3) but don’t know how to transfer in a safe manner all my cydia apps to my 4S once it will be jailbreakable, nor do I know how to leave my it totally clean of personal and sensitive data.
You’ve got the wrong impression. The 4S will not be jailbreakable, all work is concentrated on jailbreaking iOS5 or 5.01 on old devices, iPhone4, 3GS, iPod and iPad1. Of course unteathered, sind the majority of jailbreakers have trouble with the teathered version.
With a lot of luck this might happen early in the new year, about when 5.1 arrives, so many people that upgrade will be stuck again.
The new devices, 4S and iPad2/3 are not even close to receive a jailbreak, teethered or unteathered and nowbody is saying anything about that. All reports always stress that these devices are not compatable and people have to wait. And wait. It will be a loooong wait.
And then comes the iPhone5.

This video is about a jailbreak, nothing to do with the BB. So even if they manage to jailbreak iOS5, at least on the old devices, and its a big if, you still have to cope with your BB.
The BB is the biggest stumbling block in my case. There is no genuine liberation if the BB remain unlocked. What is a “jailbreak” if there is no freedom from a prison cell numbered 4.11.08?
The BB will not be unlocked. There has been no unlock for years of any BB and there is no work being done on it either, as its of no interest, you get all iPhones factory unlocked, besides, its illigal and the laws for defrauding the providers are pretty harsh in some countries.
IPods, as demoed in this video, are not affected anyway, iPads come unlocked as well.
Dual core devices (iPhone 4S and iPad2/3) will also have to wait for a jailbreak, a long time, if ever.

No. At least not yet. Maybe next year. But then, you will need a jailbreak for 5.1 or higher.

Maybe it’s my age…66… But somehow I feel I’m on a möbius loop….. How many times and questions are needed to convince everyone that when the Dev Team has a solution they will tell the world… Until then asking the same questions over and over expecting a different answer is the definition of insanity…. Call me crazy but that’s my take on this blog….

He he, you are even older them me (60) and I thought I’m ancient. But think of these poor people, they are waiting for the dev-team (whoever they are) since August 2010 for there precious unlock. Since then there been told that there will be no unlock anymore, still, the forums do not quiet down. Every new BB and everyone crying where is the unlock……
I just bought a iphone 4. He updated to 5.0.1 before I bought it. I have T-Mobile, and have been an “android” person since day one. Is the only way to unlock so I can used it w/ T-Mobile to Jailbreak it first? I understand what jailbreaking the iphone allows you to do… but for the time being, I just want to be able to use the phone.
T-mobile where? In the states? The iPhone4 will not work correctly with t- mobile, as there do not have 3G connections. If you just bought the iPhone4, it makes no difference what iOS version is on it, if you cut your t-mobile SIM down it will work as a phone but with poor data performance.
But you should know that before you spend $700 or more on a phone?
If you talk about t-mobile in Germany, no problem at all, best network there and official partner for the iPhone.
If you bought a AT&T phone and want to use it on t-mobile…..well, no chance, sell it and get yourself another android.
Yes in the states… The Iphone 4 works just fine with T-Mobile, once it’s unlocked and jailbroken. (i’ve seen it in person) I didn’t spend 700 on it (even though this is irrelevant) I got it for 200.
Well, like I said, it works as a phone but because of the differences in 3G standards between AT&T and t-mobile, data performance is poor as you are limited to so called 2.5G (what ever that means) with a maximum data rate of about 20kbs.
But all that aside, there is no way of making it work as your BaseBand is upgraded to a unlockable version and that is not reversible.
With old iPhone4 and older BaseBands you could have used a Gevey card and unlock the phone (making data even slower) but those days are over now as well. A real unlock after the original BaseBand from nearly 2 years ago (1.59) was often promised but never came and there is really no hope that that will change anytime soon.
So, if you have a AT&T iPhone and updated to 5.0 or later, you got a teathered iPod.
$200 is too much for that as you get it (8GB only) for $99 at AT&T direkt.
My $700 and up where estimating a free and factory unlocked phone.
Just use latest redsnow, point it to ipsw 5.0 and force it to use that, install jailbreak at iphone with 5.0.1. It will install!!! After add the bigboss semi-tethered patch. reboot!
Select again from disk the ios 5.0 ipsw and make it iphone boot.
You will be at version 5.0.1 unlocked
Assuming your statements are valid, where do you get this information from? Have you placed a call and experienced an unlocked iphone on the t mobile network?
