@Jave : there is an option in snowbreeze .
@Raveendra : you will be able to unlock using gevey sim if you preserve your old baseband
all the new snowbreeze do it for you automatically even if you don’t select it

I updated to IOS 5 without preserving my baseband so I’m getting an error that the sim card is not supported. Im using gevey sim ultra.. I cant find any solution online.. please help..=(

Ya, I’m not very savvy in the jailbreaking field. But after I did mine 7 months ago or so, I feel pretty confidant in all of it. With all of the tools out there to do it, it’s pretty freakin easy. If Haze thinks that jailbreaking is hard…chances are he’s slightly on the retarded side.

Likely you can. Like previous versions of jailbreaks from tethered to untethered.

it seems like everyone is succeeding at upgrading to ios 5.0 and preserving their baseband at 04.10.01 or earlier. I’ve been trying and keep running into ‘unknown error 11′ in itunes. anyone have this issue or know of a fix?
ps. i read that this error has something to with an extracted baseband file within the ‘custom’ ispw that im trying to restore to.

I’m currently trying to upgrade my iPhone 4 from 4.3.2 to 5.0.1 while preserving my 01.59 baseband. I’m running into the same Error 11 that you described – did you ever figure out how to fix it? I have tried removing the BBFW file from the unzipped .ipsw as many sites suggested, but it doesn’t help. Any ideass???

I am currently using iphone4 for the past 6 months, with 4.3.3, BB- 4.10.01 and unlocked with Gevey,originally locked to AT&T(US).
I want to know
1) whether i need my original AT&T sim in any of the steps to upgrade from 4.3.3 to ios5 as i do not have my original sim now.
2) Whether i need to jailbreak my iPhone before or after the upgradation as i do not want to jailbreak.
3) Will i have to connect my iPhone to pc every time i switch it Off and On.

I have unlocked ios 5 on iphone 4 using Gevey Ultra by jail breaking, but surprisingly, when I attached it to itunes it does not show the option “restore from backup” as I want to back up my data contacts, Sms, notes blah blah, any clue ?

Ok, so my iPhone battery died and I put it on charge having forgotten that I did a tethered jailbreak. so when it was switching back on I put it into DFU mode as soon as I could to boot with redsnow app. Now every time I boot it, it keeps telling me springboard has crashed and that I’m in safe mode. How do I get rid of this safe mode? Help plz
The same thing happened to me. I un-installed all the apps i added from cydia then reinstalled them. It was fine but then my phone turned off so i gave up. I think it best to wait until they sort all the bugs and apps are updated for ios 5.

Guess not, I have my new 4S and dont want to use it over my 4 until its JB’d as dont want to loose all the functionality I currently have. Keep us updated, cant be bothered with Tethered as I regulary run out of battery and the phone must die once a day, lol I would spend all my time Jailbreaking it.
It’s not that it has to be rejailbroken after every boot, it’s just that it has to be boooted via redsn0w in defy mode if it is rebooted. It takes all of 5 seconds to initialize, but if you burn the battery that fast then maybe you get a battery backup charger and close out all your non-running apps. I rarely have a need to turn off my phone, so the tethered is manageable, but not ideal of course.
I put a passcode on phone and can not remember it I cant get on safari or anything else I just want to bypass the pass code and remove it can this be done and then put my phone back like it was?
Have you tried connecting to iTunes and hitting the factory reset button? No idea if that would work but I would try it.

I jailbroke mine on IOS5 with redsnow, however I cannot unlock it beacuse I am on 04.08.11 modem firmware which is not conpatable with cydia unlock software. I am now stuck on the wrong network, when will the solution be available for unlocking ios5 phones???
I know every one is waiting for the untethered iPhone4 jail break for IOS5 and I have been out of the loop for a while. So I read on your article that you can jail break the IOS5 with a tethered version. I kind of understand it but what the hell does this mean? Do you still have access to cydia? My main goal is to get MyWi to use the phone as a hotspot for myself, my wife, and my dad but I am limited myself on fixing the phone if it breaks or bricks and they are even further off on this. Please help me out with this if at all possible.

being tethered means you have to connect to pc and use “just boot tethered right now” option on Redsnow to boot. rest its same , u will get cydia and other jailbreak features .
So that’s all it means. Just for the sake of my dad and wife they won’t have to worry about anything if I use this on their phones? just that you have to connect the phone to the computer to jail break the phone right?

I cant download winterboard via cydia. it says need some depedies like mobile substrate. After download mobilesubstrate my iphone 4 needs to be rebooted. Please someone tell me how I can download winterboard without any problem. Please, please
I recently installed redsn0w 0.9.9b7 for Windows on my iPod Touch 4G running iOS 5 (Brand new iPod by the way). Everything works well but the only problem I have is when I change pages on the switchboard, the page transition is choppy and not smooth. I have experimented and when I go to MobileSubstrate Add ons in SBSettings and turn off WinterBoard then the page change goes back to normal (but not 100% perfect). I entered safe mode too and everything is perfect which leads me to believe its a Cydia download but maybe it’s a launchdaemon (I have no idea about these)
I am new to all of this so patience and clear explanations would be appreciated.

I agree with Robert, the transition is choppy I restored my iPhone 4 iOS 5 back to factory settings and alls well. When I the reinstalled redsnow and it went back to being choppy.

I installed by following all steps, however I am not sure, whether my iphone 4 jailbroken or not. I got Cydia application installed, however by clicking it it is working (crashing?). I couldn’t see anything else difference.

You need to connect your phone to your computer and then run Just Boot in redsnow and follow the instructions. Vary easy to do, however, when your phone reboots it will display the pinnaple, that will confirm you have jailbroken it, if it displays the apple logo you will need to jailbeak it again.

Believe me..there are two ways sn0wbreeze works..one without JB & one with JB…u r in first category..
so if i do this as tethered will i have to start up with ibooty even if i just put my phone on sleep an turn it back on instead of actully turning it off? an a question when i try to use sbowbrezzy it tells me to down load the ios 5 thing my phone is already ios 5 but i cant do the jailbreak tethered at all i ahve snowbrezzy running but i can not pass the step where it says drag ios 5 here so help please

So I connected my Phone to my iMac via DockingStation(USB) but the Device in RecoveryMode as requested by redsn0w, but before anything of the jailbreak-process could take place the program crashes down with an “unexpected error”…
any help/idea?

I am new to iPhones and I purchased an almost new Iphone 4. My current cell phone provider uses AT&T towers so it was not necessary for me to unlock my phone for cell and text use. However, I can’t seem to change the settings to jailbreak the phone to use the internet. Any suggestions?

After I did jailbreak with Redsnow 0.9.9b7, after the last reboot my phone could not boot
Can not enter in dfu mode by holding the Home button and Power for 10 seconds it restarts and freezes all the time

Hey, you will need to open redsnow on your computer and then do the dfu boot thing, and reset your phone back to ipone non jailbroken by using the redsnow menu, you should then be able to re-do the unlocking. I had this problem after trying to use Cydia with the wrong firmware. Is quite annoying but gets your phone back !
I have a new Iphone 4 around one month and i put IOS5 and jailbreak tethered. On this moment i am waiting like many users for unthetered version. My question is to now if somebody can help me with why i cannot transfer musics now from itunes to iphone or even with other any software like mediamonkey, etc. I just google and they i read that it was because it was jailbreaked … is there any way to fix this? Is the unthetered version going to fix this or in past this also happen with same versions?

ijoyPhone4 .. well i am not the most experience guy ever with iphones .. i just got my iphone 4 two months ago and on this moment is working so nice with IOS5 and all the softwares working nice! Jailbreak was easy to do .. about loosing your info i think you will loose but you can always make a backup but if you cannot restore that backup if install IOS5 .. well is something that you have to decide yourself ..

I have download RedSnow and Jailbreak my phone. Cysia will install then it will just flash. I still can’t receive or send picture text. I was told to install TetherMe it is not there in cydia. There is a My5.0 and it is 19.99 for the package.

… i´ve jailbreaked my phone with this ipsw: iPhone3,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw
everything went fine, but then i got the same old problem i had untill i update my iOS … everytime i´ve got my inbox open or i´m writing a message, if i receive one text message or mms the phone restarts by himself and enter in Safe Mode … well this bothers me a bit and i dont know how to fix this …

I used the redsnow 0.9.9.b7 to jailbreak again and it works. Now i am able to use SemiTether Jailbreak. Why is this so? I thought we are not able to jailbreak when we are @ baseband 04.11.08?
