It would appear that Apple and Samsung may have some competition on their hands next year. Google is working with newly acquired Motorola to develop a smart phone and a tablet that are reportedly being released next year.
Known only as the X-Phone at the moment, the new device is said to be highly advanced and extremely powerful, although no details of design and specifications have been released as of yet. According to Dennis Woodside, CEO of Motorola and former top sales executive for Google, Motorola are “investing in a team and a technology that will do something quite different from the current approaches.”
Lior Ron is heading the project and he has apparently demanded that the new phone has a “killer camera”. Motorola are also looking at using different materials, such as ceramic, to make their new phone highly unusual. They are also planning on using their recent acquisition of Viewdle to bring some interesting features to the device.
So far, there has been no response from Google to requests for information about the phone but here’s hoping that, when it finally arrives on the scene, they can provide some real, and much-needed competition for market leaders Apple and Samsung.
