upgrade jailbreak iphone 4

So I am currently running iOS 4.1 jailbreak on my iphone 4. I want to upgrade it to 5.0.1 since it has the untethered jailbreak. So I used pwnage tool to create a custom firmware and tried to restore the phone through itunes with the pwned firmware. iTunes then rudely told me that my Iphone did not support that build. So I did a little research and came up with something related to shsh blobs . Basically I just need someone to verify what I think is happening, and maybe even supply if there is a work around :

The way I understood it, is that apple requires that your iOS device be verified and signed before it can be upgraded to a new software. And they typically only sign the newest software. This is what restricts people from restoring their devices to an earlier firmware (unless they have the SHSH’s saved for that firmware). But would it also prevent you from upgrading to a firmware higher than your current one, but lower than the latest one ? Ex: I am on 4.1, I want 5.0.1, but 5.1 is the newest one out right now.

Now one weird thing is that cydia is saying I have SHSH’s saved for all the way up to 4.3.5 (even though I’m only on 4.1) and I’ve never downgraded this device before. I’m not really sure why that is, but is there a way to get the 5.0.1 SHSH for my device at this point?

In summary, is there anyway to get my iphone onto 5.0.1 so I can get the untethered jailbreak not upgrading to iOS 5.1 ?
