Terminal Crash on Iphone 4

Question Posted by : Jermanian

Jailbroke my iPhone 4. I installed ‘Terminal‘ (to change my root Password, etc). When I try to launch Terminal, it starts for about half a second and then crashes. Have tried restarting, reinstalling terminal, and restoring/re-jailbreaking.

Thanks!iphone_terminal

What is Terminal ?

A “Terminal” app for the iPhone lets you type and execute command line codes.

Same problem here. Terminal opens but then closes almost instantly!

same here… Terminal opens and then immediately is closing the next second…
      iPhone G4, iOS Version 4.0.1 (8A306)
      Firmware: 01.59.00

I have just jailbroken an iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3.1) with redsnow and when trying to access the mobile terminal to change my password the app crashes about a half second after launching.

Likewise, same here.. I jailbroke last night and pretty much went straight to change the password, terminal just crashes. Tried reinstall, no go. Some other apps do funny things too, weird icons on the springboard (white and names like: TrustMe, DemoApp and similar).

I’ve searched for this, but it seems that something is not right with Jailbreakme.com and iPhone 3GS with iOS4… Also does seem to only be a problem in the last few days, all earlier reports seem fine with no terminal issues

I’m new to all this jailbreaking stuff. How do I find my phones Firmware so that I know I’m downloading the correct sofware?

  3. Max says:

Ok, found my own answer. The MobileTerminal app which is installed by default isn’t yet iOS4 compatible.

Go to Sources and add the xSellize repository (look it up).
Next go to the Search option and enter the word ‘Terminal’

You should see two options, the first being ‘MobileTerminal’ (ticked) from the Cydia/Telesphoreo repository), and “MobileTerminal Beta for iOS4′ from xSellize.

Uninstall the first one, let this happen, don’t queue the two together, then install the beta for iOS4.

    Terminal now functions as normal

  4. Max says:

A much better (and more correct) way to do this is follow the instructions from comment #31 from this page: http://code.google.com/p/mobileterminal/issues/detail?id=172#c31

EXCEPT, the link is broken, you can find that in comment 28 or 16

  5. anthony says:

ya gotta get an account first from xsellize and append the repo url…

  6. Phil says:

Just update your Rock (my phone) app and it will offer to change both passwords for you. Much easier than all the ssh and transfering deb files etc

    • Geo says:

Thanks Phil! For me updating my password from the default was all I needed, and the “Rock” app was definitely the easier way to go
