Question Posted by : Alex
I jailbroke my iPhone 3G firmware iOS 4.1 using sn0wbreeze as you have posted in the jailbreak blog . It worked and everything was great but my sim card wont activate the iPhone. I’m using a H20 sim card and i cant make calls or text or send any message. It says NO SIM and in iPhone settings – about it says Network ( Not Available ) carrier ( Not Available) can someone help me with this ?
Thanks , Alex
Solution :
Okay, so here is the thing.
Whoever used whatever tool to install “custom” IPSW on your phone, there must have been option to “Hacktivate” the phone or “Pre_activate” kind of option menu. This option allows users to SKIP the first activation process, which probably requires ATT.
What I am sure is that, this Hacktivation or PreActivation thing temporarily disallow iphone to accept any simcard.
There are 2 ways to resolve this issue.
First one is, when you make custom IPSW, please do not let any ownage tool to “Hacktivate” the IPSW for you.
The other one is that you would download “SAM” and “SAMPREFS” from CYDIA using the http:// repo.bingner.com as the source, and “SAMPREFS – Utilities – REVERT LOCKDOWN” to revert the hacktivation process.
I used the second way because I did not have to reinstall IPhone from custom tool again.
Hope that helps.
