Microphone and Earpiece Not Working – Cannot Hear Voice

I have an unlocked iPhone 4 which is running version 4.0.1 and baseband 1.59.00. My question is this, When i make phone calls the phone allows me to make the call however I cannot hear anyone and they cannot hear me. However when i make a call with Skype the microphone and earpiece both work. I am totally stumped with this. Any help would be great. thank you.
