Hi, I have a jailbroken iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.3 on baseband 1.59.00, unlocked with Ultrasn0w. Using my Mac and iTunes 10.5.2, I am trying to upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 using the PwnageTool 5.0.1 . The problem is that I keep getting an iTunes Error 1600 on one step . I tried it about 5-6 times. Unfortunately the blog does not provide a contingency plan if that happens. After having researched the problem a little bit, it looks like all the possible solutions are either for PC (iReb RC3) or are old and outdated.

Anyone have any suggestions that will work in my case ? Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer :

Download the latest version of iReb here and fix any Error 16xx issues on iTunes iOS 5.0.1 Firmware restore .

Error 1600 Fix

I have downloaded TinyUmbrella, iOS 5.0.1, irebR5, sn0wbreeze, and redsn0w to try to upgrade my phone from 4.3.3 to 5.0.1 but i keep getting the error 1600 from itunes v10.6.
The steps i am using is to put the iphone in dfu mode(plugged into the computer) then i used irebR5 to pwn dfu. And i edited host file to the address 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com or the 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com (have tried both) i opened itunes and shift-click restore and designated the custom firmware that i had created from sn0wbreeze in order to preserve baseband. And it still gave me error 1600.

Another attempt was to do it on a different computer and also with a different usb cable. But on this second computer i got the errors 1602 and 1601. Third attempt, i said f**k it I’ll restore it the apple way, so i re-edited back the host file to the original ip address to apple, and still got the error 1600. How do i get pass this error ?

Answer :

Save the ipsw file where itunes saves it on your computer . Now try to update or restore your iPhone . iTunes will use the ipsw file instead of downloading. To bypass iTunes errors is like trial-and-error thing. You have to use Redsnow (enter pwned dfu , recovery fix) and Snowbreeze to get past this . Several tries will be needed .
