What at are the proper steps to take if your phone is already jailbroken and a new iOS version comes out ? Do you restore, update and then jailbreak with the new released jailbreak ? How do you get all of your jailbreak apps back ? Many thanks for your help .

Step 1 : Backup Old Jailbreak Apps
Before you jailbreak make sure to back up old apps via iTunes and AptBackup [for cydia apps]. After you have jailbroken , install AptBackup from cydia and tap in “Restore” button. You will get back all your jailbreak apps back . For apps that you downloaded via Installous can be synced via iTunes if you have installed AppSync .
Step 2 : Update Firmware using iTunes
iTunes can be used to update firmware on your iPhone . There are three ways to do it (manually and automatically) and via Redsn0w to Preserved Baseband which is explained in this article – How to Update iPhone 4 .
Step 3 : Jailbreaking Again
To upgrade your jailbroken iPhone 4 iPod Touch 4 iPad you can use tools like Pwnagetool [for Mac] , Redsnow [ for windows] or Snowbreeze [ both Mac and Windows ] . All Jailbreak tool and tutorials can be found using the links below.

I have just jailbreaked and unlocked my iphone by using and preserving baseband method. If in future I want to upgrade my iphone to the latest version (like currently its ios 5.1). Is it safe to upgrade my idevice to the latest version or do I have to take some steps and precautions ? Will it make my iphone dead if upgrade as it is right now(unlocked and jailbreaked) ?

Wanting to upgarde from 4.1 to 4.2.1 via GreenPois0n. But, quick question before I get started. On my iTunes (10.1.2), it asks me to upgrade to 4.2 If I do this, will it then give me the chance to upgrade to 4.2.1? (always heard to stay away from 4.2) So, I would hate to bring my phone up to 4.2 then get stuck there! (lol) Thanks.
If u update today through itunes you will get 4.2.1. You also will receive a new baseband currently unlockable… If this is important to you, i advise to use pwnagetool or any software that you can use custom firmware for bb preservation, you also can now use tinyumbrella for this!
when i updated to ios 4.2.1 from ios 4.1 i first upgraded to ios 4.3 then downgraded it to ios 4.2.1

Well, hesam if ur currently on ios 4.3.3 and u got shsh files on ur iphone all u need to do is to download tiny umbrella press start tss server and then u go to itunes, hold in shift button and u will haveto find ios 4.2.1 firmware and then it takes little time after awhile u will get an error wit 16xx just press ok go to tinyumbrella press fix recvoery and ur good to go withurnew firmware:D

the only option or unlocm at this time is gevey sim or rebel sim thays to spoof ur simcard u place it under ur micro sim and put it in and it will work it costs about 70 euro or somethinf
sir do u have any sort of idea when the unlock for this firmware will be released ? becuz i think i should wait for it rather than buy the gevey sim …
the unlock wont come, my guess is that dev team got payed by apple to not unlock iphones anymore so i wouldnt count on a unlock for a very long time
but the unlock for 1 0f the 4 basebands working on firmware 4.3.3 has already been released by dev, so i think there is a possibility that the remaining three basebands will be on their way …. anyways thanks alot for giving me some valuable advices for my problems… thanks once again ..

Do i install the update via itunes as normal and then grab the IPSW file and jailbreak through redsn0w or is there someother way of doing it?

on my jail broken 4.2.6 version, the computer now recognizes it as a portable device when pluged in. When I try to load pic or music files onto it, it says ” cannot copy item, device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected”. Any ideas on loading files onto phone without itunes

I have the same prob but with 4.3.2. I found the answer right above ur question, a reply from Camo that says:
Download appsync from Cydia
Sync with Itunes – that will save all apps
Upgrade to latest firmware
Re-Jailbreak
Then restore through I-tunes (i’ll have to figure out this one today, i think i saw the button somewhere at the bottom of the program)
And do tell me how it works for you mate. I hope we do not lose our apps and settings

Is it possible to fully and correctly unlock and IPhone 4 if it is tied to a carrier?

@vishu: bb 1.59.0 is required to keep for unlock your phone later. ios 4.0 … to 4.3 are not importance, of course u want the latest one 4.3 for full function.
snowbreeze 2.3b4 can let you update ios4.3, keep ur bb and when done jailbreak, you can unlock ur phone by ultrasnow 1.2 on cydia.
do carefully, a mistake can change your iphone baseband.
recommend: use tinyumbrella to save SHSH to cydya server so u can load old ios 4.0 and bb1.59 back to ur phone.

No you can jailbreak ios 4.1 with greenpoison, but use limera1n for ios 4.1

When I upgraded my partners Ipod from 3.x to 4.2.1 and then re Jailbroke, none of the jailbreak apps worked so I had to re download them all which was a PITA, and all the game saves were lost!

try running redsnow in compatibilty mode for windows vista or xp, if this doesnt work ill find a soulution/ to change compatibility mode right click redsnow/propeties/compatibilty and u will see it there, if its not run in admin mode check the box

hey, go to mycomputer :c drive, windows/system32/drivers/etc delete host file(s) if u ever used tinyumbrella delete that host file too after this restart anf try again.

no you cant, you will have to update via itunes and then jailbreak via redsnow, unfortinatly itunes has given out ios 4.3.4 to patch jailbreakme.com site on iphone.. so u will have to save the shsh files and upgrade and then downgrade and use tinyumbrella this is a very hard procedure and if ur unsure i would advice u to stay awake from it, idk if u can use e redsnow with 4.3.4 read on google and find out .

Im in the UK, and the phone was bought on a new contract with network carrier O2.
Im interested in jailbreaking my iphone, but have one question before proceeding.
My question is: If i jailbreak my iphone, will it lock my current carrier(o2)? I plan to stay with my O2 sim and wont be using any other network carriers.
I ask this because i’ve seen many users reporting “no service,” problems after jailbreak. Will encounter this problem?

I have a jailbroken Ipad 1 with IOS 3.2 and wanna upgrade to 4.0 or 4.3.3 version.
Problem is that I have dowloaded ISPW 4.3.3 file and try to do a Retore. It lets me select the downloaded file but Itunes than connect to Apple and get stuck there as 4.3.4 already released and wont let you upgrade to any lower version. How to I get around that?

I am using Iphone 4 version 4.3.2 purchased from canada, using in India with Gevey sim for Vodafone.
But it gives problem with the signals. When i switch off my phone, it lost its signals and then i have to do some process with airplane mode to get the signals.

Felix, I’ll advise you not to go ahead with the upgrade no matter how possible it seems. This is the same problem most of us are facing. I tried it and my phone jammed. I have’nt been able to restore the former OS.

I have a jailbroke iphone4 4.1(greenpoison), i want to update to 4.3.3, but my problem is i have a previous itunes account on another computer that was taken from me. Now when i try to sync my apps to my new itunes i get a message “All existing apps and data on your phone will be replaced with apps from this library(which is nothing) I have Appsync from Cydia, should i just go ahead and sync it? Hello Shelly. I had the exact same problem as you. I think this link helped me quite a lot when dealing with that matter. If I can recall what I did I think I firstly started to ‘authorize the computer’ and you do that by right clicking on iTunes store button in iTunes (if I remember correctly) and then you’ll be able to transfer purchases (installous apps too) to your computer. You do that by right clicking on your iPhone device icon in iTunes and choosing ‘Transfer purchases’. After that you’ll be able to sync with the new computer. You will lose all your songs but all your apps will be there.

Hi could u please help me, basically i have a jailbroken iphone 3gs on vers 3.1.3 (its also unlocked using redsnow). I want to update and keep my phone unlocked aswell ( so do i update to 4.2? Via itunes…) What is the best and easiest option? (oh and its an mc model if that helps)

My version wireless iphone 4 if running a untethered 4.2.10 jailbreak and I want to upgrade to ios 5 on october 12th. I dont want my phone to be jailbroken when i upgrade to ios 5. So whats the right way to go about upgrading? Do i need to restore my phone to a non jailbreak operating system and then upgrade to ios 5? Or can i just plug my phone into itunes and upgrade to ios 5 without restoring?

Hello I have a question.
I have already Jailbreaked my iPhone and I am a bit confused how to install this new update. Do I first have to upgrade my iPhone to the new iOS and then jailbreak it again or is there some other way to do it? Will I be able to restore my old installous apps again by simply using the latest backup after I have jailbreaked it again?

If it’s a factory unlocked iPhone, then you’re lucky and yeahh may proceed to update it from iTUnes. Good luck
I originally purchased my phone in the UK a year ago and jailbroke it after a couple of months. I was on the 02 network.
I am not sure if the phone was network locked at the time. I have now inserted a tmobile USA simcard and it works fine.

how do I perform an upgrade using cydia without harming anything. I have read that performing some upgrades could lock the phone and i wouldnt be able to use it on any other network.

The only way to see if your iphone is factory unlocked is to call up apple or borrow a couple sim cards from friends and see if they work. If they do then your phone is probably factory unlocked. If not then it is relying on a soft unlock. Upgrading without taking proper precautions will change your phones baseband and prohibit you from unlocking.

Hi, i tried to upgrade jailbreak from 4.3.1 to 4.3.3 due to some error with my uisounds. I’m using tinyumbrella to save shsh and itunes to restore to 4.3.3 which then i was prompt 1013 error. According to tinyumbrella website, i can enter dfu and click on the fix recovery tab.
The log show that fix rercovery has finished and allow device to reboot. How long should i wait? What is the next step?

u must have the original sim that came when u bought the phone or try all sim card that exist in youre country or u jailbrake with redsn0w . if u jaibrake the unlock is gevey *only*

I recently jailbroke and unlocked my iPhone 3GS. Here is the original setup that I had prior to the modifications: iOS 5.0.1, baseband 05.16.05, new bootrom. Now I have: iOS 4.1, ipad baseband. I experience a bad battery drain. I would like to udgrade to the latest stock iOS thorough iTunes. I understand that if I do that I will lose the jailbreak but I don’t really care about it, all I care about is the unlock. I want to preserve the unlock. My question is, will the unlock be preserved if I upgrade to iOS 5.0.1? Thank you very much!
no the unlock disapears . you have to JB it again then install ipad baseband after use ultrasn0w
what do you mean? upgrage from 4.1 to stock 5.1, then jailbreak? but if i upgrade to the stock ios 5.1, won’t it destroy the ipad baseband that i now have?

google after older itunes and download it then google iphone firmware 4.3.3 and download it the go to itunes hold down shift and toggle to iOS 4.3.3 . pz

Hey all, I am having a bit of trouble with my jailbreak. I am using an iPhone 4g, with 4.3.5 ipsw installed. I jailbroke with Redsn0w 0.9.6 rc12. I cannot connect to GPRS 3G cellular data, or receive MMS messages. The MMS messages come through fine when I send them to myself. I also can’t open Safari or Cydia as they both crash to the menu immediately after startup. Update 5.0.1 is available through iTunes but I do not want to update because my Internet speeds currently can’t handle the 700-odd megabyte update. I have also tried restoring to the vanilla 4.3.5 software, but iTunes won’t let me, as it shows up with an error code.
