Those of you that are currently running the recently released and tweaked iOS 6.0.1 will be thrilled to learn that UltraSn0w Fixer has now been updated to provide support. This means that you can continue to use your trusted carrier unlock without encountering any problems and the fix will work on the iPhone 4 as well.
If you’ve been using UltraSn0w for some time and are happy to continue with the increasing rigmarole of updating your firmware then you may want to wait for the next iOS update. The changes in this version are so small that there isn’t really any difference from the previous one. However, if you’re a stickler for having things exactly right you can use the following steps to unlock iOS 6.0.1 :
- Jailbreak and Install iOS 6.0.1 on your iPhone with preserved baseband . If you haven’t already done so you will need to download RedSnow 0.9.15b1 or later. Snowbreeze 2.9.7 can also be used for this process .
- When your original baseband is protected and Cydia is installed, from your home screen go to Cydia > Manage > Sources > Add and type in the following address – http://repo.iparelhos.com
- Once the package is installed find and install UltraSn0w Fixer for 6.0.1
- Download and install UltraSnow from Cydia. You must download the Fixer first otherwise it will not work.
Locking phones to a specific carrier really only serves to give that carrier a modicum of control. In reality, most people make it their first job to unlock their phones , especially iPhones as many carrier contract plans do not support them anyway. The easiest way is to ask your carrier to do it; most will for a fee or, if your contract with them has expired they may do it for free. Unfortunately, this is not always the case but you can rest assured that the jailbreak team will always find a workaround for these, and other issues.
At one point in time, UltraSnow was the in-thing and it was simple – download, reboot and away you go. Unfortunately, these days only those who have managed to protect their old unlockable basebands can use UltraSnow but it is constantly being updated and fixed to allow all users access, even those running the latest iOS.
