You need to download iOS 5.0.1 .ipsw
every sn0wbreeze mode preserves baseband.
Use sn0wbreeze to update to iOS 5.0.1 (I just did)
sn0wbreeze will install cydia for you.
search for untether and install!

No I don’t think Gervey Sims will work , only upto 4.3.5 F/W.

@Rohan & Marky: Yes, this will update you to 5.0.1 and preserve your BB as long as you precisely follow the instructions. And yes, this is an untethered jailbreak. If you’re using a Gevey, you don’t have to do the final steps about unlocking (steps 11 onword), these are for software unlocks for 3G, 3GS, and 4. For Gevey, after step 10, go through your Gevey unlock process (the whole dialing 112 thing) and you should be good to go. Just remember to direct iTunes to the custom IPSW with NO BB that redsn0w builds for you. This is in the instructions, but I can’t stress enough how important this is because there is no going back if you use the origional one from Apple. The origional one WILL update your BB, and unless you are using a 3G or a 3GS, there is no way to change your BB to one that can be unlocked.

Hi there. I have a factory unlocked phone. I’ve jailbroken by installing cydia etc, not going through the custom psw file. my phone is jailbroken but when I restarted springboard. I only had newstand and my bookmarks. Once I plugged into comp tho it restarted and was fine. This isn’t un-tethered then? Any info would be cool.
@Horatio: The 1600 error usually has to do with a bad USB connection. Hopefully this will be an easy fix for you. First try plugging into a different USB port in your computer. If that doesn’t work, try a different cable, if you have one. If that doesn’t work, it could be an issue with the Host File in your computer. This is also a relatively easy fix and involves checking that the host code is correct. There are instructions in a bunch of places online. If the first fix doesn’t work, post here again and I’ll try to give you some more directions reguarding the host file fix.
@nzsheila: I’m not sure if I completely understand what your issue is, but it sounds like you might be using an earlier version on Redsn0w. I have also heard some people say that there is a tweak that they have downloaded from Cydia. Make sure you have http:// repo666.ultrasn0w.com as one of your sources and search for untethered. I haven’t had this issue so I can’t be 100% sure about this, but I have heard this from others. Hope this helps and good luck

Remember to preserve your baseband, otherwise your phone will be locked. Before doing the jaillbrake and updating, go into “extras” in red snow and click on the “preserve bb” button. This will build an iOS5.0.1 for you without the BB update. Put your phone in DFU mode and open iTunes. It will recognize your phone as being in recovery mode. Hold down “control” while clicking the “restore” button. Then direct iTunes to the new iOS the redsn0w created for you. It will have “no_bb” in the title. iTunes will then update your phone with the new iOS while preserving your BB. Once that is complete, open redsn0w again and run the “jailbreak.” After that is compltete, open Cydia, go to sources, click on “add” and add “http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com” after it installs, open Cydia again, go to sources, click on repo666 and search for “ultrasn0w” and instal. Now your phone will be updated, jailbroken, and unlocked!

@Rohan Rijal: I posted step-py-step instructions higher up on this page with instructions on how to preserve your BB. If you’re using Gevey, just ignor steps 11, 12, 13 and follow your Gevey activation instructions (the dial 112 thing).

Make sure you are using redsnow 0.9.10 and not 0.9.9. The 9.9 also just came out recently but is still tethered.

Wait a secon, WAIT A SECOND…. IT WORKED !!! I think that the difference was in the way I put the iPhone in DFU Mode. The thing is that the first time I used the fast version, when you go to “Put to DFU mose”screen, with the iPhone still on, and then just by pressing both buttons at once till it shut off, and then just pressing the home button, BUTTT What you need to do, is get into the DFU Mode, as specified in the instructions, and it works 100% !! Time to donate now… CHEERS @Pod2g !!!

I have a I phone 4 BB. 04.11.08 there is a lot to say about this baseband as we all know is not unlockable , but I heard yesterday that the Gevey card Gevey Ultra does unlock it , before I purchase this card I would like to know if anybody out there gives me the ok on this rumor, thanks
It doesn’t; however, there is a new chip coming out very soon from a different Chinese manufacturer called “vold miracle.” It looks as though it will be around $80-100 US but will work on 04.11.08. There are a few websites that are offering reservations and preorders. Just remember to preserve your BB for any and all future updates.
So if another update was to be released how does that work with the ota updates. Does it remove the jailbreak?
Do not update ota, yes, your jailbreak would be gone and your BB updated. 5.1 is imenent.
Basics: with a jailbreaked phone NEVER update until youre told its safe.
Updates are usually fine, as long as you update with a custom IPSW with the BB removed.
hopefully unlock is coming.. Software is much better..

As long as you’re already running the 5.0.1 iOS, you just need to run the new redsn0w and make sure the unselect “instal Cydia” when prompted.
My cydia tweaks are for some reason not working! Everything else seems to be fine, all apps are intact, only the tweaks don’t work. PLease help.

I am currently in iOS 5.0 and the jailbreak app says iOS 5.0.1 support. I have few questions:
1. Will redsn0w support 5.0 ? or do i need to upgrade my phone for 5.0.1 ?

Do not worry, there is no unlock coming for any BB.so it makes no difference if you have a locked phone on 5.0 or 5.01.

Has anything been developed for that? There is a lot of talk for those who are already unlocked to keep their baseband and stay unlocked, but what about those who cant unlock as of right now? No, there is nothing and there is nothing coming. It would be MUCH easier for your gf to change the carrier or sell it and get her one with her carrier.
how come there will be nothing for the newer BB’s?
is there ANY way around this? shes locked into a contract so i dont think a carrier change is an option..
If she is locked into a contract then upgrade with that to a iPhone, if she needs to pay, sell yours, normally no problem. These phones are subsedized for a reason you know.
Or do what you should have done in the first place when planing of not fullfilling a contract, get a factory unlocked phone. Then you are free to do what ever you want.
But if you let your provider pay half the phone, you should understand that they do not give anything away for free.
Jailbreakers do just that, jailbreaking. Got nothing to do with an unlock. With your BB you could use a Gevey card, but you will have to live with the hassle of poor to non existing 3G performance and frequent dropouts, but you can try it.
Only the latest BB can not be opened with that.
BB 04.10.01 CAN be unlocked with a Gevey sim. Just make sure to preserve your BB if you update to iOS 5.0.1

Hi there I am using the latest redsnow for the untethered jailbreak and it has been going smoothly up till the part where the pineapple logo appeared and it was loading really slowly and I don’t think it was entirely loading and the apple logo popped up and now I’ve been stuck at the apple logo screen for almost half an hour! Is this normal?

You can hold the Power and Home buttoms until you see the Apple Logo, then try again!

That is what used to happen with the tethered 9.9 redsn0w that came out a couple weeks ago. Make sure that you’re using the new 9.10. You should also be able to use the “just boot” option I’d it is the older version.

your idevice is still tethered at the moment so you need to use iBooty to boot up. (iBooty will be on your desktop when you create custom .ipsw)
Once booted up open cydia.
search for chronic dev untether, “corona”

your idevice is now untether jailbroken 5.0.1 with preseved baseband.
It appears that when i add sources in cydia they don’t download it or either take extra time then the usual amount. And when I do install it doens’t install it properly. it appears that it needs fixing, gonna have to go bak to tethered JB as the untethered is buggy.
Oh and is it possible to overwrite a untether state to tether? or wud i have to restore again and apply it then?

So the probleme is the redsnow o.9.10b1 keeps saying it failed and he is in dfu mode! i have checked in windows device propertise, also when i just folow the process he says that i did the dfu mode wrong! wtf?! never had this prob before en will try again tomorrow, but i don’t understand this…someone any logic answer?!

totally makes a difference. Sprint, Verizon, and smaller carriers such as MetroPCS and U.S. Cellular use CDMA.
AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM

Right after I restore my phone and jailbreak with the newest Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak I encountered Cydia Error about out of date Cydia? I did the refresh in Changes, but still give me the error, I couldn’t load my purchased Cydia Apps.
Failed to Fetch / Some index failed to load, they have been ignored.
and Cannot Locate Package

Nope! Nothing like that happens to me! Try restarting your springboard.
i tried restarting springboard, rebooting, and still lag. I removed the untether and rebooted via iBooty, still lag. I’m going to try a complete restore.

I am planning to update my iphone 4 to 5.0.1 untethered BB 1.48.0. using redsnow (redsn0w_win_0.9.10b1)
1. I will create custom IPSW.
2. Using itune I will restore the _bb_ custom IPWS file.
3. than using redsnow I will jailbreak my phone.
4. Install ultra snow 1.2.5 to unlock it.
And I will preserve my BB 1.49.0 My iOS will be 5.0.1 untethered and it will also be unlocked.
Please check and reply if this is right.
If you want to preserve your BB when you restore via itunes make sure you select the custom redsn0w .ipsw WITHOUT “bb”
IF you select the wrong one your baseband will be updated and an unlock will no longer be available
Yes, that’s right. Just make sure to select the IPSW that says “no_bb” in it’s name.

Ok so this is all fine but i have a tiny problem, i downloaded the ipsw file and wen i started redsn0w and chose custom ipsw, it couldnt locate any ipsw files from the extracted folder of the one i downloaded, the folder is almost 800 MBs so i know its the right one (I guess) but red snow cant find the right file to create the no BB version of, any help ??
you have to rename the dowloaded file to .ipsw and it should work.
OR download right from itunes. Click check for updates and an option should come up to upgrage to 5.0.1 or download only. Chose download only.

However i can’t use iMessage anymore. Does anyone have the same problem? What can i do to activate iMessaging?

my white iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1 will not jailbreak, it never gets past the limera1n exploit. if it does the first stage is skipped and it says exploit failed. i have chosen an ipsw to help it, and no dice. Help?

lots of people seem to be having issues with redsn0w.
I would recommend using sn0wbreeze.
Use sn0wbreeze to uprade and jailbreak 5.0.1 tethered.
Once you go through the ios 5 setup that automatically comes up, reboot your device.
You have to boot back up via iBooty which will be placed on your desktop when creating .ipsw with sn0wbreeze
after you’ve booted back up,
search cydia for chronic dev unther jailbreak package “corona”
Install and your device will be jailbroken and untethered.

I think the servers are just bogged down, near as I can tell. I don’t think it’s a problem with the jailbreak.

This does work on BB 4.11.08; however it is just a jailbreak, not an unlock. If you’re phone is locked to a provider, it still will be.
can someone please help me? im at a total loss. i am using ios 5.0.1 and it isn’t jailbroken yet so i downloaded redsnow for the untethered jailbreak. everything was running smoothly. however, after a while. the phone just got stuck at the apple logo and i can’t even detect it on itunes alr. so i tried using snowbreeze and ibooty to restore the phone but the same error pops up on itunes with error 3194. try putting your idevice in DFU
hold home and power for 10 seconds
release the power button while continuing to holding home button for 30 seconds.
if that doesn’t work
hold home and power till apple logo goes away. Keep holding home and power till logo comes back.
Keep your idevice hooked up to computer so you can hear itunes recognize it

it doesn’t work. there’s an error 3194 when i tried restoring. i tried restoring through itunes OTA ipsw file, through snowbreeze’s ipsw file and the ipsw file i downloaded online. still doesn’t work though.. and the worst thing is that my phone is probably empty now with all the data wiped out because it is just shown as an iphone but not with my name or anything

Download the latest version of TinyUmbrella for Windows or Mac.
Switch to “Advanced” tab and uncheck “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit” option
Click on “Apply Changes”, followed by restarting your PC or Mac

There is no good reason to stay on 5.0. The reason for not updating to 5.0.1 was because there previously was no way to preserve your BB. There is now

Hi I have an Iphone 4 GSM model. It was on iOS 4.3.3 unlocked with gevey pro and jailbroken via jailbreak me exploit. I heard of the untethered jailbreak available and with the latest redsn0w download it, and created a custom iOS 5.0.1 ispw to preserve the baseband of 04.10.01. I jailbroke it using the custom ispw I created. And now after i bypassed the activation the gevey sim will not work. I installed furiousmod, network reset, turned off wifi, turned off cellular data, and it just never gives me a signal, no service is all i get and I have done everything right. Any help? Also the sim applications option is gone from the settings, the phone is unteterher jailbroken though

hello, you can trie; turn it of an after that hold powerbutton 8sec. than press button to and hold it and wait antill its in recovery mode. than get it out to reboot. if don/t work than turn of put usb conextion pc the foon will start and than hold power 10sec. than hold button with it the same time for min. 10sec. you’ll here sounds and see it go in to recovery. get it out and now restart and just wait! 30 40 min. aND HOPE YOU HERE THAT PEASING SOUND. 1 lound bliep. if you hear it you now its ready to be coming out. i thought with my iphone 4 it never go out recovery. i had to lay the fone down hafter a day ells it never have to come out rec. again lol. i pressed the buttons longer and i see that where it did not came passed the apple logo it whas showing a black screan. looking good you’ll see like thare snow like on tv wen kabel pulled out. you barely see it.. i take a shower AND 15 20, MIN LATER I HEAR THE SOUND and came u like nothing ever happend..before that i whas 10hours bizzy installing the hole phone and did it for nothing evry time.

To back up apps you right click your iphone in itunes and select backup. To backup tweaks and sources install xBackup through cydia. Make sure you keep a copy of the xBackup backup in a seperate foler, as you will need this when you want to restore.

I was using gevey sim pro on iphone 4 ios 4.3.5 BB 04.10.1 and was working normaly. I made the update to ios 5.0.1 with PBB 04.10.1, jailbreak untethered and now I am not able to make the gevey sim work.

My iphone 4 is updated to ios 5.0.1 using custom ipsw from redsn0w, when i go to jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.10b1 for Windows (running as an administrator in Vista or Xp compatibility.) it said: exploit failed and i try again, it freeze on uploading stage first or second sometimes. What is the problem?
0.0.10b1 how do you untick ‘Cydia’ as unlike previous versions all there is ‘jailbreak button’ which installs Cydia again. After clicking this button it wants to put you in DFU mode at that point I have stopped it as I am already jailbroken on iphone 4 50.01 semi-untethered.
Any help would be appreciated
