Will this work for Verizon IP4 on iOS 5.0.1?

    • iPhone Blogger says:

yes , thats what the developers say

      • DarkXShadowX21 says:

I did this and it didn’t work. Itunes keeps stating that the iphone could not be restored because the firmware is not compatible. What should I do from this point forward??

      • mr_ak says:

I also had problems upgrading to IOS 5.0.1.
-I tried restoring to a stock IOS 5.0.1 on both MAC and PC
        -I tried restoring to NB_IOS 5.0.1 firmware
-I also tried redsn0w_win_0.9.10b3 and PwnageTool_5.0.1 to create custom firmware
-I switched USB cables, USB ports, etc.

After one frustrating day, I finally got lucky and was able to restore IOS 5.0.1 custom firmware cooked by PwnageTool (restored using iTunes on a Windows 7 computer).

I’ve tried so many different combos so many different times, so I cannot put my finger on what made it work finally. I guess all I can say is: keep trying different combos and hopefully, one of them will work for you.

When i was finally able to restore, the initial setup process has a really cool “Lion” feel to it. Very cool and rewarding.

Thanks to everyone who spent countless hours to create these tools that we can all use!

My iPhone 4 is in recovery mode, I hadn’t updated from 4.3 because I was waiting for an untethered release of iOS 5.0.1. I just need to know what iTunes version do I go through restore with? It asks me to install 10.5.2, but since I know apple is always trying to screw me I just don’t trust them. I’ve searched like crazy on the internet, but it seems I’m retarded. So my question is that if I use the 10.5.2 version of iTunes, does it upgrade my iOS so I can jailbreak it?

    • Ian says:

@Ian : you have to download latest itunes .

      • joe moralis says:

        latest itunes ! for waht?

      • mr_ak says:

It’s always OK to update to the latest version of iTunes to increase restore success. Some folks might get upgrading iTunes with upgrading IOS (firmware) mixed-up.
My rule of thumb is: open iTunes WITHOUT iPhone plugged in. If software update pops up, perform the update. Close iTunes and re-open again WITHOUT iPhone plugged in. Once no more update reminders pop-up, then plug in iPhone. Any update reminders that pop-up AFTER iphone is plugged in should be cancelled.

Living in Costa Rica and I need a way to unlock my iPhone in 4.11.08, will this jailbreak start me off in the right direction? Does anyone know
If an unlock or gevey is in the works for this baseband?

  7. Andy says:

Do it. Find out if it works and let us know.

Let me clarify a little bit more detail here. I am currently with a friend of mine working on jailbreaking his Verizon iphone4 on IOS 5.0.1

I tried using RedSn0w, the latest b3 and it gets stuck on the part “Waiting to reboot” It does the same thing with b2 and b1. I tried using snowbreeze and itunes doesn’t accept the firmware. Then I just used this new Pwnage tool and iTunes doesn’t recognize the firmware. Is there anything else that can be done to allow iTunes to recognize this firmware or jailbreak this Verizon iPhone4 on IOS 5.0.1. Any information would be great! Thanks in advance!

    Figured it out!

Verizon has a CDMA Specific IPSW for an untethered jailbreak on IOS 5.0.1

Took 2 days to realize this :)

  10. Floris says:

Hi all. Just wanna let you know what I did to make 5.0.1 work on iphone 4, preserving baseband, 04.10.01.
I have ATT locked iphone 4 in South Africa. Using Gevey sim to carrier unlock the phone. It works.
I used Pwnage tool to preserve baseband, but
it gave me errors on iTunes on Mac OSX.
Moving to Windows and using Ireb v4, before running iTunes worked.
And I installed Custom firmware from Pwnage tool.
I do not know why Mac gave me errors.
Use windows with latest iTunes, it works. I did it twice.

    Goodluck, cheers.
    Floris.

  11. Floris says:

Use itunes TO ONLY DOWNLOAD your specific software, then locate it ion your harddrive and then run it through Pwnage tool or Redsnow.
