For the past few days i was unable to make any update on this site due to some server migration work . Here is a tutorial that will help you do the downgrade on your iPhone using SHSH Blobs .
Steps to Downgrade Iphone iOS 4.0.2 to iOS 4.0.1 :
Despite my warning , many iphone users upgraded their iDevice to latest version iOS 4.0.2 . This can be bacause they were confused or have itchy fingers 
. Anyways , my job is to come to your rescue and here is the tutorial to go back to older iOS firmware.
** Pre-requistes : You must have saved SHSH Blobs for your older firmware iOS 4.0.1 for this method to work.
Phase 1 :
- Download TinyUmbrella and iOS 4.0.1 Firmware . Follow the Download Page here
- Put your iPhone in DFU Mode
- Now run TinyUmbrella in your MAC or PC and click the “Display SHSH” tab . This is to confirm the downloaded SHSH blobs are now cached by TinyUmbrella application for iOS 4.0.1 or earlier iOS version. If you already have them in your system , just drag & drop the SHSH blobs in the TinyUmbrella window and click the “Display SHSH blobs” button to proceed.
- Now click the “Start TSS Server” tab.
Phase 2 : Restoring iOS Firmware
- Open iTunes
- Hold down the Shift key in Windows or Alt key in Mac and press the “Restore” button.
- Select the downloaded firmware from Phase 1 and allow the restore to be processed.
** Note : You may get Error 1015, 1013 or 1011 message in iTune’s. This is normal and nothing to be worried about. Now you have successfully downgraded your iPhone from iOS 4.0.2 firmware.

Update : Getting out of Recovery
To get out of recovery mode , click on “Kick Device Out of Recovery” button on TinyUmbrella right below the Start TSS Server button. If the Kick Device Button is Disabled , you can reconnect the device and use RecBoot to kick out of recovery mode.

but the only difference is that Im stuck in emergency call, and i have updated 4.0.2, and i have done DFU mode with it, and that still does the emergency call, while there is a logo in the background with (connect usb to itunes) ! WHAT SHOULD I DO ? please help me
insert a sim from any phone that fits in the iphone 4 sim holder. this should activate the phone and you will be set

probably you dont have the SHSH blobs , thats the reason . I must have warned you guys to have your SHSH blobs ready before any IOS upgrade has been released ..
Those who dont have SHSH blobs saved cannot downgrade unless Apple is signing the Firmware.
I had no chance to use a tiny Umbrella before I got a 4.02 because I had no idea I have to do it. I did jailbreak my 4.01 and I didn’t know I have to change my server password… So few days later I noticed my pass is changed ( I didn’t do it!! )
So I scared somebody else did it, so immediately updated to 4.02. No I stock with that sh-t because no jailbreak , and I have no chance to restore it?????
I followed all of the instructions as laid out for a new iPhone 4. When I attempted to restore to 4.0.1 though it checked with Apple and received a (3149) error, what does that mean?

I just followed phase 1 and when I go to phase 2, I cant find inside the folder I downloaded as the old firmware, a fil compatible with what ITUNES asks me

I have a iphone 4, i guess is the first download.
but itunes asks me *.ipsw files and in the folder I download it there isnt.
That means it doesnt recognize your downloaded file . Well i will wait to see if other users face the same , issue. Then i have to find another download link for the file .

for what it’s worth: i just picked up a new iphone 4 today with 4.0.2 on it and for the fun of it i downloaded the ipsw for 4.0.1 (search the web) and restored it thru itunes to that software, then went on safari on the iphone to http://www.jailbreakme.com and did the jailbreak, then i cut down my tmobile sim card to fit (found directions on the web)into the microsim slot and i am talking and texting on my new phone!! no worries about shsh blobs, i never had any and it worked without them.

I just got a new iphone 4 today with 4.0.2. I downloaded 4.0.1 but the verify fails. Did you edit your hosts file first or did the restore just work?
you can restore it then insert any sim card that fits and this will activate the phone

I dowloaded the file 4.0.1. However when I tried to restore using itunes it says it will restore and update and start dowloading a file from istore.
Would you please explain how to use the dowloded file on itune to restore it?

i have an iphone 4 in canada with rogers, and i did the downgrade from iOS 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 just by downloading the iOS 4.0.1 to my desktop, then going into itunes with my iphone connected and right clicking restore, then selected the file i just downloaded to the desktop. jailbroke my phone successfully =)
My problem is that I download the ipsw file but it is downloaded as a folder. with no ipsw no where.
how do I convert that file into IPSW

Not sure if I have a newer version of iTunes, but I was unable to “right click” restore to choose the downloaded file, and it is currently restoring whatever firmware it had on file, probably the 4.0.2 as I had mistakenly updated. I don’t have those SHSH blobs or whatever, I guess I will just have to wait for a jailbreak for 4.0.2.

sooooooooooo, i to the point to press shift and restore… the file is no where to be found so i copied and pasted but itunes keeps telling me it is not compatible so i did something wrong somewhere and have no idea

I followwed the steps, and enter the recovery mode, and use the file IOS 4.0.4 firmware file, but after that it gave me a message in itune, it says “this device is not eligible for the requested build”. What should I do??

ok so i accidentally updated to 4.0.2. i have seen all of the post about there not being a way without the shsh. I have already tried dfu w/ 4.0.1 and 4.0 *ipsw. i am very fluent in the process, but i need to know if there is another way. is there an update yet and if not whee shoud i be looking to find it if one does become available

Why do you need a downgrade , iOS 4.0.1 can be jailbroken. Just folloe the jailbreakMe tutorial .

I had upgraded to the new firmware and lost the jailbreak. Uninstalled cydia and reinstalled the jailbreak software redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-5 to the iphone then reinstalled cydia and updated and it did jail break the new firmware.
I went up to selecting the file 4.0.1 for restore. After the window “verifying with apple for restor” I get the error “this phone is not eligible for this build”. The phone also does not come out of recovery mode. Please help – what to do.
I found it was a version problem of iTunes and I have now installed 9.2.1. Now it goes beyond verifying with apple for restore but now I get 3194 error. Somebody please help – I am not from the US and Flying back Sunday. Please this is a fervent appeal.
try disabling your windows firewall, remove the proxy settings in your internet browser settings and try again….
ok so i finally figured it out. i downloaded another copy of 4.0.1 the first one i already had from the job. it wouldn’t verify the firmware to restore to downgrade from 4.0.2. mind you, i was one of the people who did not have a shsh of my 4.0.1 build. after downloading the new copy of 4.0.1 from “iphone4jailbreak.org”. i option click to pick the new copy of 4.0.1 it started but gave me an error code 1004. at first when u click ok it just restarts the iphone and it still has 4.0.2. after trying it again started instead of clicking ok for the error code itunes, i opened umberalla and clicked on “kick device out of recovery”. the iphone restarted and it had 4.0.1. went to jailbreakme.com and downloaded ultrasn0w to unlock and popped my cutdown t-mobile sim in and fixed.

He did not mention which itunes version he choose . He get another copy from iphone4jailbreak.org (which same size 579.24 MB so what is diff?

**P.S when you need to downgrade you need to put your Iphone4g in DFU mode not recovery mode( both are different). what he did possible for iphone 3gs or 3g not for Iphone 3g 4.0.2 it will work

error 3002 keeps on coming up in itunes afther using 4.01_8A306 with umbrella. Is there some solution for error 3002.I am one of the ones outside US and without the original sim…

please help! I had a jailbroken iphone 3gs,I was running 3.1.3. I just upgraded to 4.0.2 not knowing that it was unjailbreakable, I downloaded 4.0.1 to restore it but I get error 3002 and 3254. What can I do?

It’s mentioned everywhere on the net that the 3G models can still be jailbroken with 4.0.2
The problem is with iPhone 4 having 4.0.2 !!!
Now, coming back to the problems while downgrading iPhone 4 from 4.0.2 to 4.0.1, has anyone got a workaround for error 3194 (which is actually “This device is not eligible for the requested build” if you check it in the log)???

I ended up paying for a solution online and when I logged into the members area they gave me the same steps to downgrade with no success… Please note I have a brand new iPhone 4 from AT&T! When I wrote them and complained that it didn’t work I got this email last night
The downgrade worked until yesterday, when Apple stopped signing the SHSHs for 4.0.1
Didn’t get chance to update the site until today. Don’t panic – 4.1 is just around the corner (7 days away) and we have a jailbreak and unlock for that.
So there it is… Us iPhone 4 people are out of luck until then… I will be back to post a response when the time comes! Thank you for the help everyone.

I am just trying to find out possibility of downgrading to 4.0.1 from 4.0.2 on iPhone 4 IF we don’t have our SHSH Blobs saved, especially new iPhone 4 owners who unknowingly upgraded to 4.0.2.
I am having the same issue as Aj.Fathers. I have an iphone 4 on 4.02(no shsh), and whenever I try to downgrade to 4.01, I get the 3194 error everytime. Getting black screen, and keep having to restore to 4.02.

How do you know that, Apple will leave 4.1 “jailbreakable” when they have blocked the 4.0.2 already?
I may be wrong… but the reason 4.0.2 is not jailbreakable isn’t because they cannot do it… but rather because they didn’t want to waste their time developing a jialbreak for a version that would be outdated so quickly… so instead they thought ahead and jailbroke the next version 4.1… the big question is as follows…
Will the jailbreak for version 4.1 also work with itunes 10?
Well I paid for an unlocking guide which they claim they already have an unlock for it… Reason being is most likely due to the fact that apple releases the beta to developers

But meantime, why can’t we use someone else’s SHSH Blob of 4.0.1? I mean is it tied to a device id or something?
If it’s not then there should be a huge # of 4.0.1 Blobs from a lot of those expert “jailbreakers” and it shouldn’t be hard to pick one of those as a baseline and restore from it, right?

Hello when i start TSS server do i have to wait for it to finish? Because what happens is that the “kick device out of recovery” button is disabled(not highlighted).

I have a similar, but different problem. My IPhone 4 has 4.0 on it… and stupidly, I never upgraded to 4.01. But, now I want it! I’ve downloaded it, skipped the first steps – then tried to restore to 4.01. After spending forever “verifying IPhone restore with Apple”…. I get an error message saying it can not be restored, with an “unknown” error message of 3194.

Since I´m new at iphone technologies, does the carrier locks are done by iOS setup or it’s hardcoded on the HW?
No Unlock is not Hardcoded , otherwise we cannot unlock it using UltraSn0w…

Hi Yacine , Nice to se you here . Sorry , but you are a bit late in the show . Jailbreak stopped working few days back after the iOS 4.0.2 release , as we warned users not to upgrade the firmware . Once I had my new IPhone4 in my hands, the first mistake I made (because I didn´t know anything about) was to upgrade to 4.0.2 release. I didn´t save anything, and later, as the worst thing, I had to format my computer hard disk which I upgrade my Iphone from.
Now I want to downgrading it to 4.0.1 release.
Do you think I could make it saving now SHSH blobs from firmware 4.0.2? Remember: I haven´t anything saved when IPhone was iOS 4.0.1 prior to upgrade.

Surprise after the restoration, his Iphone4 become IOS4.0.1

Hi, I never updated since 3.1.2 because it was jail-broken. I want to update to 4.0.1 instead of 4.0.2 to be able to jailbreak my phone later. Can I update from 3.1.2 to 4.0.1 using the download found here to used to downgrade from 4.0.2?
Al interesting, Just got new iphone 4 with 4.0.2 loaded. I have also tried every permutation of Tinyumbrella with DFU as listed above and continually get 3002 error when trying to downgrade to 4.0.1. Tinyumbrella sees my shsh, but it seems as though something changed after August 20 rendering this tutorial ineffective. Has ANYONE who purchased after August 20 with 4.0.2 been successful in downgrading to 4.0.1? Subsequent jailbreak will be easy…
Sorry to tell you but you have the same problem as me, you can not downgrade, if you look at your shsh file it is for 4.02 as same as mine, we didnt save our shsh file before apple stoped sign it, if you find a solution please tell me.
i think the problem is that we bought iphone 4 with 4.0.2 out of the box, so there was no chance to save a prior version’s shsh/blob with cydia to help with downgrade…

I just read on your site that the update to 4.1 will be on Sep 8th. Should I update to 4.1 or wait? I had 4.01 and udated to 4.02 killing my Jailbreak. I am new to Jb and thought once it was Jb I was good…now I want my Jb back, and I can’t get there because I didn’t know anything about the shsh/blobs…I’m such a noob…LOL
I’m on 4.0.1 and i’m trying to reset my iphone 4 to fix cydia (i screwed it up pretty bad). I put in in DFU mode (which now i can’t get out of) and when I use tiny umbrella to reset it, i get an error 3002. what do I do? (my iphone wont go back to normal even with “kick device out of recovery”. Also for some reason in tiny umbrella comes up as iDevice and under advanced options it shows it as an ipad (which i change)

Yes after 4.0.2 it is locked and ı send to telefon repairman and he did something I’not sure whether it is jailbreak or not but iphone opened again. okay but other users say that it doesnt work for iphone 4. why does that happen
well im not sure wht your guy did , but iOS 4.0.2 cannot be jailbroken, probably he restored it , and jailbroke it using JailbreakMe.com . If you further upgrade , u cannot JB it , as iOS 4.1 is jailbreak proof …
What do you mean JB proof :s ! u mean so far or the dev team arent gonna design a jb for 4.1 either :s ?

cant downgrade my iPhone 4 from 4.0.2 to 4.0.1!!!! i downloaded the “iPhone3,1_4.0.1_8A306_Restore” file from the “felixbruns” site to downgrade. i hold shift and click restore on itunes. when it finishes extracting the file, it says “iPhone cannot be restored at this time because the iPhone software update server could no be contacted or is temporarily unavailable”. iv’e tried so many other ways to jailbreak but i end up with this window.
I bought a Iphone4 in Sep 2010 and fail to downgrade it to 4.0.1 and the response during restore with Itune is “iphone could not be restored. This device isn’t eligible for the requested build.”
Could someone help me. The Iphone 4 is bought from US.
So if I have a new IPhone4 with 4.0.2 and I have my friend’s Iphone4 with 4.0. Can I save his SHSH and use it to downgrade my iPhone4 to ios 4.0 ?

I had try downgrding 4.02 to 4.01 to jailbreak but still failing several time and is frustrated. Can anyone help me! When press Mac “alt” key and itune “restore”, response is “The iPhone” could not be restored. This decise isn’t eligible for the requested build.

Hi mate. So good to see someone that cares on here! I just bought a iphone second hand. This phone was running 3.1.3 and was jailbroken and unlocked so that i could run it on my network in New Zealand. The guy who sold it to me upgraded it to 4.1 and now i cant unlock it as there is no unlock yet
ITs a 3gs 16gb and i just want to somehow reverse this back to an older ios!!! But have no idea how, and I have just received phone so its where is as is…

have a big issue with my iphone 4, i don’t remember passcode then i would like to know best way to access to my iphone, it is not jailbreaked, i didn’t back it up. i don’t want to loose my music, video pix and contact, how can i do ? could it work if i downgrade it to a previous firmware version ? or if i update it ? or if i jailbreak it ? i just don’t want to loose my data. thank you so much for your help
