If you have recently upgraded to iOS 5 and not liking it , here is the tutorial to downgrade from iOS 5 to iOS 4.3.5 or older firmware . This tutorial works only if you have saved the SHSH blobs for your previous firmware to which you want to downgrade .
Note : Downgrade only works for firmware and modem baseband is not downgraded in the process .
Steps to Downgrade iOS 5 to iOS 4.3.5 – iOS 4.3.3 and older :
- Download iOS 4.3.5 ipsw – iOS 4.3.4 ipsw – iOS 4.3.3 ipsw
- Turn Off your iPhone 4 and connect it to your computer using the USB cable
- Put your device in dfu mode following the instructions shown below
- Now navigate to the following location on your computer c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc and find the file named “hosts” . Mac users should go to Folder and type /etc/
- Open “hosts” file in notepad/text editor in Administrator mode and edit the last line of the file and add 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com as shown in the image below .
- Launch iTunes 10.5 and selevct your device from the left sidebar and RESTORE it by pressing SHIFT Key on Windows / Alt key on Mac and pressing RESTORE button .
- Navigate to the iOS firmware downloaded in the Step 1 and allow iTunes install the firmware .
- iTunes may throw error 1013. Ignore this error and proceed with the restore process .
- Download TinyUmbrelly and select “Exit Recovery” to get out of recovery mode .
- Remove the lines edited in the “hosts” file in Step 5 .

I wasnt able to use Gevey sim on IOS 5 and so My modem baseband was downgraded as well by downgrading to IOS 4.3.5. Later did baseband preserve mode using snowbreeze and updated firmware to 5 and now i am happy.

Remove the gevey sim and put the original sim back in and downgrade to 4.3.5 using itunes 10.5. After that use snowbreeze using baseband preservation mode to to create custom IPSW and upgrade tp IOS 5 and put back the gevey sim.Should be ok then.
Oh yeah. Change the host file under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\. Open the host file with notepad and insert the line 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com and save it. Then try the process of downgrading it again though apple is still signing downgrade to 4.3.5
Apple is still signing the 4.3.5 firmware which means you can downgrade from baseband 04.11.08 to 04.10.01 . Remember to use iTunes 10.4 and not 10.5. Hurry and downgrade now
I used 10.5 to downgrade using shift+restore and then pointing to 4.3.5
It should work. Try the processs again.
I tried downgrading several times using 10.5 and it worked.

by mistake i try to upgrade IOS 5 via itunes
it’s downloaded completely.
But when goes to upgrade i got “SIM not valid” msg

Siraj, u have done stock upgrade to IOS 5. Put the original sim back and remove the gevey sim and downgrade as fast as possible to your previous ios and then use snowbreeze to preserve your baseband and then install custom IPSW of IOS 5 in baseband preservation mode.

So my doubt is, without SHSH blobs i can downgrade or not?
You can not downgrade baseband!!!

same proplem here. sumbody help us please. tried to downgrade to use gervey sim. but keeps coming up with error 3194. tried adding the gs.apple host files but when i try save it says contact network administrator for permission to save on disc C and saves in documents which is where i believe the prob is cause it has to save on the disc to be effective right. HHHEELLLPPPPPPP
Right click on the host file and open it with administrator rights

i am not too sure, but through browsing so many pages since yesterday when i turned my iphone to a touch accidentally,i believe you suppose to be able to hacktivate it from there. wish i cud get further past the software extraction n get to where u at. google hacktivate i4 or watever for more info,,,, goood luck n wish me the same. arrgghhh my phone.

are you sure of this and cant u bypass apple by rewriting the host files???? i neeed to downgrade my phone or else it`s just a paper weight

I am unable to Exit Recovery mode using tiny umbrella.
The host file shows 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com appended at the end.
Somehow managed to reboot the phone, my baseband is still 04.11.08

Dear, can i downgrade my ios 5 to ios 4.3.4 and will my signal return back?
This is how I did it on 20 October. You must have shsh blobs stored on cydia. With my iPhone running iOS 5 I connected it to tinyumbrella. Pressed save shsh and it showed my shsh for 4.3.3. For convience I searched for shsh on my pc then copied the shsh for 4.3.3 to my desktop. I then downloaded ipsw 4.3.3 for my phone and also placed it on my desktop. Using ifaith I created a *signed*. I used ireb to place the phone in pwned dfu mode. I searched for the new ipsw an with tinyumbrella running TSS server used the shift+restore and selected the new ipsw. No more iOS 5!!! I used iTunes 10.3 btw.

ifaith wouldnt recognize my shsh … you know why? ..OFC1969?
Not sure why. If you used the same shsh as the ipsw you are installing there should be no issue. You could check for a FAQ on ifaith.

even if you guys manage to downgrade the firmware, the baseband stays the same ,because apple has stopped the signing of firmware 4.3.5!!!

Hi this should help, i noticed that once i upgraded to ios5.01 i didnt have a restore option in the right click menu in itunes. this is because apple hide it on Hacktivated phones. this little beauty emulates most sim cards and fools itunes into officialy activating any phone. mine is a 32gb iPhone 4 from AT&T in the USA, i use it on 3 in the UK with a gevey sim, i had to preserve the base band before upgrading to keep the gevey working. here is the link to SAM
i’ve the 4.3.3 ipsw in my PC,and familiar with the steps to restor the iphone,the issu is when i’m in DFU mode and trying to restor my iphone 4 on iOS 5 “not the beta one” it blocks on 3194 error,i tried to remove the hosts files,but no result!!! what can i do please ?
Use TinyUmbrella instead of messing with host files. Google it.

if u have iphone 4 already 4.10 baseband preserve the baseband using tinyumbrella.. do not close anymore…
then put ur iphone 4 which have a baseband 4.11 ios 5 restore it into 4,3,5 then use the the tinyumbrella which baseband save and preserve the iphone 4 of ur friend…… ill try to speak english but my nose is bleeding blood.. hehehe… i post my videos to complete this options… please be patient…

I’m sick of random reboots of my iPhone4, and as long it is an UNtethered JB my phone do NOT reboot as it supose to, so I must go to redSn0w and reboot my phone thru my PC… I tryed the semi-tether, but it didn’t work.
Right now i’m at:
- iOS 5
- BB 04.10.01
- Gevey SIM user
If I follow those steps listed in this page to downgrade to 4.3.5 I’ll keep my BB?

I tried several times doing this with itunes 10.5 and it says “Error 3194″ or sometimes it says “The Iphone cannot be restore at this time because the iphone software could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable” help please.
Download latest IREB and enter into DFU through that , when message appear something like , Now open Itunes and shiftrestore, SO do what you need to do, If doesnt work. Uninstall Itunes,Uninstall Bonjour., go to documents->music and delete Itunes folder,, reboot pc, install Itunes 10.4 and try again these steps.
Also if you preserving BB, Use snowbreeze,( and I didnt use tinyumbrella for that)
I tried to do this in itunes 10.4 and says the same thing, apple no longer has 4.3.5 in their library so don’t try this.
I had constantly 3194 error while downgrading to 4.3.3 or updating 5.0.1(snowbreeze). And then when I used IREB for some reason I could downgrade to 4.3.3w/o any error at the end.
WHY DONT SOMEONE JUST OPEN UP A SHOP WHERE ANYONE THAT DONT NO HOW TO DO THIS STUFF WITH DOWNGRADE AND RESTOREING CAN JUST TAKE THERE FO E IN FOR A FEE AND GET IT DONE FOR THEM

I have an iPhone 4, with 4.3 firmware working with gevey sim in india. I lost the original AT&T sim that my phone came with. Will I be able to put my phone in dfu mode and upgrade to iOS 5 or will I be needing the original sim to kick it out of dfu mode or connect to iTunes. I have all shsh blobs saved. Please help.
