Burglary at Microsoft Research Campus – only iPads taken

An amusing story appeared at the end of the work about a reported theft that happened at the Microsoft Research Campus in California. The break in apparently happened sometime between 19th and 26th December when the campus was virtually empty for the Christmas period. Although a break in is not amusing what is, is the fact that despite all the expensive Microsoft gadgets that would have been laying around (it is a Research lab after all), the only thing that was taken were iPads.

A report from the Daily Post reads  :

“Microsoft reported that two iPad 2s, and two iPad 3s with a combined value of more than $3,000 were taken some time between Dec. 19 and Dec. 26 on the company’s campus. A police report also said a fifth tablet — described as an iPad4, worth $729 — was taken as well…

…No Microsoft products were reported stolen.”

It does look like it was an inside job as there were no reports of forced entry. All Microsoft employees gain access via an electronic key card. There are no suspects as of yet but Microsoft say they are going through video surveillance tapes to see who was in the building at the time.
