AT&T is set to withdraw the $10 per month text messaging plan for its iPhone users in the next few days . The $10 messaging plan allowed users to send 1000 sms . Now that leaves the iphone users to either choose from the $20 unlimited sms plan or pay $0.20 per sms .
Here is the statement from AT&T :
Starting August 21, we’re streamlining our text messaging plans for new customers and will offer an unlimited plan for individuals for $20 per month and an unlimited plan for families of up to five lines for $30 per month. The vast majority of our messaging customers prefer unlimited plans and with text messaging growth stronger than ever, that number continues to climb among new customers. Existing customers don’t have to change any messaging plan they have today, even when changing handsets.
It is widely being speculated that AT&T is making these changes due to the launch of iMessage on iOS 5 – a Free SMS’ing service available to all iOS devices including iPhone iPod Touch and iPad . With the increasing number of Free SMS’ing services like WhatsApp , Beluga, Fast Society, TextPlus and GroupMe , customers are finding it more economical to use them which dont charge per sms .
