And so it goes on. The iPhone isn’t even 6 months old and has barely made it into stores worldwide but the rumors continue to churn out about the next generation iPhone. This latest report has it that Apple will produce not one but three iPhone models this year. The iPhone 5S and the “iPhone Math” will be launched in June and the third just in time for Christmas.
China Times reports :
“Apple will announce three new iPhone models in 2013, and two of them, the 4-inch iPhone 5S and 4.8-inch iPhone Math (both featuring 8-mega-pixel cameras), will hit markets before the end of June, China Times reported citing Taiwan-based Commercial Times. Citing Apple’s suppliers, the report added that the third model, which has not been exposed, will be launched before Christmas. The model will feature a 12-mega-pixel camera.”
Although there has been a great deal of talk about the iPhone S and possibly a budget phone this is the first we’ve heard of a third model, let alone one called the “iPhone Math”. However, the 4.8″ display does tie in with something that appeared last year, based on a report by Peter Misek, Analyst for Jefferies:
“Several iPhone 6 prototypes appear to be floating around. The model with a 4.8″ screen is the most interesting. It has a Retina+ IGZO screen, a new A7 quad-core processor variant, and a new form factor with no home button. Full gesture control is also possibly included.“
THere probably are a few prototypes; after all, Apple will be wanting to test what works and what doesn’t and what is the most cost efficient to produce. They also want to keep people guessing – which is most certainly happening!
While an iPhone 5S is pretty certain and a budget phone is also quite likely, the “iPhone Math” isn’t. Neither the name nor the display size fit in with Apple’s image or history. What is also looking more and more likely though is the release date – several reports have claimed that June will be the month so there must be something in it.
