Apple has won a long-standing court battle with rival Samsung electronics over copying of their patented designs . Apple has been into legal fights over alleged patent infringements with Samsung for the last 18 months . According to a report from Wall Street Journal , the verdict reached a 9-member jury in California Court on 22nd Aug 2012 where it had a hearing of over 600 questions listed in the verdict form . During the trial, both legal teams were given 25 hours each to present their case
The Result :
The jury found Samsung infringing some of Apple utility and design patents on mobile phone and tablets . Samsung willfully infringed on 5 of 6 patents listed by Apple . Jury finds Samsung “diluted” Apple’s registered iPhone, iPhone 3 and “Combination iPhone” trade dress on some products, not on others. Apple had no infringement over Samsung’s utility patents. Damages to be paid by Samsung due to lost sales revenue arising from the release of products that “slavishly” copied Apple’s design sums up to a total of $1,049,343,540 billion . No damages against Apple from Samsung’s counter suit .
